About this listen

A forbidden love story set in the explosive world of the NBA . . .

Think you know what it's like being a baller's girl? You don't.

My fairy tale is upside down. A happily never after.

I kissed the prince and he turned into a fraud. I was a fool, and his love—fool's gold.

Now there's a new player in the game, August West. One of the NBA's brightest stars.

Fine. Forbidden. He wants me. I want him. But my past, my fraudulent prince, just won't let me go.

*Contains domestic abuse not involving the hero.

I was not expecting this type of story TWs SA and DV it was heavy and hard to read sometimes but I really enjoyed it. A real eye opener to victims of DV and the psychological trauma /cage the perpetrators lock them in

It’s heavy but beautiful!

5⭐️ Kennedy Ryan, this is a masterpiece.

I am not sure I will ever find the right words to describe the experience of reading this book. It was visceral. Suffocating. Crushing. Brutal. Hopeful. Healing. Beautiful. Freeing.

I knew all the CW’s going in, but I was not expecting to LIVE IT with Iris to this extent. It was deeply difficult to read, but it would have been harder to look away.

This was stunning, I will absolutely be reading everything this author has written—but I will need pace myself. I couldn’t pick up a book this heavy very often.

Proceed with caution—this is magnificent, but not something to pick up on a whim.

Magnificent

I cried, and cried and swooned and cried and loved how much humanity Kennedy Ryan breathed into this story. The poetic and hypnotic way of story telling took me into the dark depths of hells some women are trapped in, others never managed escape to before paying with their lives and also the beauty that is luck when you fall into the arms of someone who loves and cherishes you. She pays homage to the roots shunned about the black culture when priestesses are mentioned and practises that give black people a shrine that has been taken from us but still thrives, there's power just beneath the surface.
