Wow!

I bought this book because it was on offer and it looked interesting. What a find! I loved it and I couldn't put it down. It really is historical fiction at its best. There is a strong plot, interesting and well drawn characters and the narration is excellent. I was very disappointed when I got to the end, but I have since found that there are a number of other books in the series. I had started one of the most recent books in the series which just goes to show that it's not necessary to read the whole series because this is a strong book in its own right. I have already bought some of the other books.

Historical snapshot - beautifully read

If you could sum up London Rain in three words, what would they be?

Historic, intriguing, enjoyable

What did you like best about this story?

Familiar characters again bought beautifully to life by Sandra duncan

What does Sandra Duncan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Excellent range of accents and voices bring the characters to life - this is her 3rd book in this series and her enjoyment of the genre is obvious

Any additional comments?

A historic real event captured and surrounded in fiction makes this of particular interest

Series continues strongly

It’s hard to talk about the development of characters in this series without giving spoilers but this book centres on the death of a BBC presenter and even some of Josephine’s friends are noticing what a selfish pain in the arse she is. I have so many questions for the author of this series!

Great performance

Another great narration of an enthralling Josephine Tey mystery. Can't wait for the next one!

Slow moving

Reams of historical information, and a tedious, slow moving plot. I kept listening hoping for a change of pace but was disappointed. Perhaps it gets better (I haven’t made it to the end), but I can’t make myself listen any longer!

So much better than the last

Back on track with a story that gives an insight to the early days of the Beeb as well as a nice twisty plot. Excellent performance

Absolutely fantastic!!

Wow!! By far the best book in the series so far!! I did skip the last book as Archie and the crimes are the best bits and I didn’t fancy a whole book that could be filled with the Josephine/Marta saga!! But this book was an absolute joy! The narration was as ALWAYS amazing and the book was Nicola Upson at her best!!! writing crime fiction and never straying from the plot! Bravo!!

Imaginative story

This is the fourth book I've read/listened to in the series and it follows the same formula as the others: some crime detection mixed with a lot of delving into the relationships among the main characters. The present novel is set at the time of the coronation of George VI and involves the demise of the BBC broadcaster doing the important commentary on the event. It's an imaginative story and kept me listening to the surprising denouement near the end. As with the other books the last hour or so has over-wrought and over-long explanatory monologues. The narrator is excellent employing her skills to produce a range of accents that helps one to keep track of the many characters.
