About this listen

"And see if there's any news about the missing girl."

Life, as Smith used to say, is just one thing after another - as one investigation ends, a new one begins. But for reasons unknown to the rest of her team, DCI Cara Freeman will be haunted by the next case for the Kings Lake Central murder squad. They find themselves delving into the seamy side of life in the town, and one of their number will have departed before this new investigation is over. Perhaps Detective Sergeant Chris Waters should have seen it coming, but he has a lot more than work on his mind these days.

I can't help but binge listen to this great series. The characters are well drawn and the stories maintain interest from first to last.

These stories are so well written and narrated

i love this author (and this narrator) for slow paced but enthralling plot development and intriguing characters. athe only criticism that i have is that some out dated prejudices seep into his stories sometimes around homosexuality, and sex workers from time to time, often the butt of jokes or out dated preconceptions around prostitution etc. Nothing overtly offensive but perhaps not helpful for these marginalised communities .

usual High standard from Peter Grainger

I enjoyed this latest story in the series.

I didn’t love the token attempt to commandeer the “me too” movement for the men with the totally unnecessary Mia storyline. We know it’s “not all men”, but the statistics show it’s overwhelmingly the women who are not believed and treated poorly during that process.

Solid storyline and character progression, but …

Another well written & well read Peter Grainger book. I am very relieved to know that DC Smith didn't die.
