Publisher's Summary

As the first anniversary of the formation of the Kings Lake murder squad approaches, there is a problem—they've run out of murders. As a result, they are given the task of reviewing unsolved cold cases. One of these comes back to life in unexpected ways as the team try to discover the identity of the young woman whose body was found in the Norfolk countryside two decades ago. And even if they can give her a name, how can they possibly find her killer after so many years?

Pleasurable--but nothing much happens

i am a fan of this series -- mainly for the wonderful DCI Cara Freeman (the books seem to orient around Sgt Waters but i find him a bit bland by comparison). The Kings Lake murder unit are an interesting team but they're running out of murders. Book 4 has them digging up a body to solve a cold case. The mystery itself is a bit of non event. i kept waiting for it to get going but the whole thing was a bit plodding with zero twists and turns. You'd have to say this is character-led rather than plot led but i feel like they need a more taxing case or the unit will be shut down for sure!

A great series with engaging characters

Peter Grainger had developed some well rounded characters in this series that continues on from the DC Smith books. Some characters the same, some new, and you feel like you’d really like to get to know them. Police procedurals are my favourite genre and this author writes them so well. I’d still like to hear more about what the retired DC Smith is getting up to so hopefully he might feature in an upcoming book soon.
