Story
No matter how Declan Idrys looks at his situation, he comes to the same conclusion every time: He is about to die at the hands of the first dark elf seen in 700 years. Fate, fortunately, is not so cruel, though, and after barely surviving this initial encounter with the er’endehn of Eserysh, Declan and his friends find themselves in a tentative truce with the war-loving elves. They share a common enemy, after all, and their mutual hate for the Endless Queen and her growing legions is enough for the two groups to set aside their mistrust for one another, if only for now.

Publisher's Summary
Warring kingdoms. Ancient blades. Dragonriders and godlings. A growing evil that threatens to destroy the world. Don’t miss the highly anticipated follow-up series to the number one Amazon best-selling saga, The Fatemarked Epic.
Infused with magic, shadows and starlight, the powerful godblades were believed to be lost nearly half a millennia ago, when the Godswar ended. Now, however, one has been found by the unlikeliest of wielders: Sampson Gaard, a blind but ambitious prince with something to prove.
The only question is whether he controls the blade or the blade him. With an insidious evil lurking in the shadows, the answer may very well determine the fate of all Kingfall.
The Kingfall Histories takes place on a different continent in the same world as The Fatemarked Epic. Fans of The Fatemarked Epic, The Stormlight Archives and Legends of the First Empire will fall in love with the world of Kingfall.

Trash
This story was garbage, you have weakness and more weakness. The only man who was willing do anything is seen as the villain. You have a bunch of idiots and weaklings that need a blade more than they need oxygen. I wasted my money because I saw TGR as the narrator, but even he couldn't save this one.
A general who is willing to let his own men die to save the enemy. This was a sad day for anyone who has ever been in the military, no general would do that. wow

Pleasant Surprise
I stumbled upon this book from a Facebook ad and judging from the comments it seemed to be a good read. After realizing that the narrator was Timothy Gerard Reynolds, whom I really like, I pulled the trigger. I read/listen to a lot of fantasy and have found that many authors tend to become cliched. David's writing style is definitely original and that was refreshing to me. It is a long book but David does a great job of holding your attention without belaboring the plot. I would highly recommend it if you are looking for something fresh.

Just not for me
I gave up about 1/2 way through, so be aware that my review is being given without a full listen. Narration was fine, I have listened to this narrator many times before and his involvement was part of why I gave this new to me author a chance. I listen during my daily walks so I typically hang on and finish books unless something really gets on my nerves, but this one did. In many ways this book offered some fairly fresh takes on fantasy tropes, but I kept hearing story elements that made no sense to me ( eg 3 same race non-human leaders having a discussion not including any humans but using common) and it would pull me out of the story. A few things like that I can ignore but this was death by a thousand small cuts.
I also just disliked many of the primary characters. Ando too one dimensional for me to engage with. Sampson too all over the place: sometimes strong then weak, sharp next minute foolish, sometimes honorable next loathsome only thing consistent for me was I was hoping he'd fail. Peony (and Dane) much more likeable but the internal dialogue of each didn't match their external actions in a way that seemed jarring to me. Aisling just made me sad. I enjoy a good flawed character or antihero, but when I consistently am hoping against the plans of the POV characters, it is difficult for me to want keep going. Perhaps I gave up too soon and some redemption arcs and/or character growth resolves some of this but I won't ever know.
Seems like many others enjoyed this, so maybe this just wasn't a good fit for me.

Extremely well done! Really really good fantasy!
This is such a great find! For me this book drew me in from the very beginning and the author took me away to a different world for a little while.
Very great connection with the characters right from the start, I can already feel my heart hurting from this relationship that will surely be put to the test between Sampson and Raymon. Multiple story lines and each of them very compelling so far.
I highly recommend this great fantasy read... it is good to the point that I need to tell someone how much I like it, and my wife doesn't want to hear it anymore...

Great Saga
it's a great story. I enjoyed all the back and forth between characters. my only complaint is the gross overuse of the word ...MAYHAPS...
it's in about every paragraph or scene.
seriously get a different word fitting of the time setting.

Returned
Absolutely love Tim Reynolds, he always brings his A game to every performance. That said, I couldn't finish this book at all. The names for people and places are very on the nose, but I figured it was just because it is supposed to be reminiscent of older times, so I let it go. it's a bit of a slog in the beginning but I'm always more than willing to give authors a chance to establish their world, and as stated earlier Tim Gerard Reynolds is worth it alone.
Unfortunately, as soon as the characters Sir Metts and Tora are introduced it completely broke the atmosphere from a ragtag warband into a poorly constructed dungeons & dragons group. I can't begin to explain how infuriating these characters are right from the start. Metts reminds me of a pretentious nerd's interpretation of himself as a gallant knight, and he often breaks all immersion by bringing up concepts that just don't fit the timeline which Kingfall works to establish. Tora is another problem, a South Park archetype who's allowed to attach herself to the group for very weak reasons which don't make sense at all in such a dangerous setting. Both of these two dimensional characters turn a pretty interesting story in which I was becoming invested, into an unbearable and frustrating experience that just killed it completely.
if you can overlook this somewhat minor issue then I recommend giving Kingfall a try. it's a shame that these two characters could completely ruin the experience for me but I know others aren't as picky so to them, I hope you enjoy what I could not. All of the other characters are deep and interesting and I plan on looking into some of the authors other books as I believe he has a real talent despite my perceived misstep.

Inconsistent, frustrating, maddening
I gave 2 stars because there was potential and the performance is good. The story started well, but slowly begins to weave a storyline that is frustrating and nonsensical.
The premise of the story is interesting and had so much potential for a tale of this genre. The performance of Tim Gerard Reynolds is good. But even his abilities and range of voices cannot overcome the storyline flaws with some of the 'lead' characters. Some of the key characters are unbelievable, pathetic, and hopeless. They are 'powerful' but helpless, brilliant but hopeless and this leaves you wondering when this story is really going to get going, but alas.
One is willing to sacrifice his own men, refusing to escape when the opportunity arises just so he can appear to satisfy his honor. This same character, a prisoner in a tyrants land, who constantly moans about the loss of his family and his need for revenge, suddenly decides he will march to fight demons because the evil king mentioned there are innocent people in their path. This man was supposed to be the high commander of his own army, who had won many battles, and was a great strategist. But now he cannot seem to grasp the basics and has lost all of his strategic brilliance and tactical awareness which has somehow disappeared with his manhood or brains or both. So when the enemy King asks his prisoner to go and fight these demons who are plaquing the country, yes the country of his enemy and his captive, he skips off and sacrifices more men, hurrah! In the meantime, the same King decides, while his enemy is fighting nasty demons in his land, he has time to invade the country of his captive. Confused. I was and had to give up. It made no sense.
I would love to know how the PROOF READERS of this book deliberated over the inconsistent and irrational storyline.
I tried and tried to forgive the flaws, which another person could say, 'Well, I see how he might do this', and read or listen on. I cannot.
There was so much potential but the character flaws and storyline are such a huge irritation and spoiled the overall story, in my humble opinion.
And it could have been addressed earlier.

Amazing read
I've been longing to get to read this book, and let me tell you, it was well worth the wait, and I was not disappointed. Vivid descriptions, well-rounded characters, excellent worldbuilding, and a gripping plot, all merge together to make this an amazing read. The story captured me from the first words, and only the essential nature of real life commitments, and the need to sleep, prevented me from devouring it from start to finish, otherwise it wouldn't have taken me nearly so long to finish reading. Now I'm eagerly anticipating the second book in the series, and strongly considering ensuring I clear my calender for a couple of days after its release so I can binge read it in the way I would have liked to do with this one. If you love a good fantasy story - especially one filled with magic, demons, and dragons - you need to read this book. And if you get the audio version, I can assure you the narrator does a fantastic job.
