Publisher's Summary

Marnie Baranuik, psychic detective and daysitter to Lord Guy Harrick Dreppenstedt, returns home to Canada for double helpings of Thanksgiving turkey and undead treachery after hearing disturbing reports from beyond the Bitter Pass.

Mark Batten was last known to be lying in wait for Aston Sarokhanian, digging into the secret of what happened to his grandfather, Colonel Jack Batten. Marnie, Harry, and her brother Wesley are working—sometimes together, sometimes at cross-purposes—to unravel the machinations of not only House Sarokhanian, but the other powerful revenants in the region and the tendrils of territorial alliances they've tended for centuries, and to protect Batten before they lose him for good to threats, both mortal and otherwise.

Stripped of the moon's sway for her own good, Marnie must slip under the radar of primeval houses embroiled in a blood feud, to manage a high-stakes game of hide-and-seek with undead smugglers, mortal thieves, con artists, and vampire hunters. Will calling in favors with local law enforcement prove a double-ended stake for Marnie and the crew?

Excellent in every way!!!

I really love this series. It makes me so happy. Marnie is such an amazing character and it frustrates me that people are suck dicks to her. They have a bad habit of thinking she’s incompetent then patting her on the head and telling her to go and stand in the corner and not get in the way. Then they get all mad when she doesn’t do what she’s told and ends up fixing everything anyway. Why do they never see how awesome she is?!?!?! Why is she never appreciated or celebrated?! No wonder she swears so much! I know why it happens, of course. She’s cute and adorable and has the unfortunate curse of being young and female. No matter how many PhD’s she has or how much she trains, noone’s ever going to take her seriously. No matter how much she swears, noone in her universe is going to see her for the badass she is. They just see her vulnerability and think she’s weak because she has (and shows, Heaven forbid!) genuine emotions. And she cares about people. Perhaps that’s why I like her so much. I can relate. She’s a real, three dimensional person. Because her story is written in first person, you get a real sense of how she thinks and feels, and her descriptions of what she experiences (both internally and externally) are splendid. As listeners, we get to experience everything she does - sights, sounds, smells, tastes and textures. The language is rich and deep, without being overdone or excessively ‘literature-y’ but it flows so well that I just inhale it every time. The narrator is brilliant too. She really captures Marnie’s voice. You hear her kindness, her determination and her intelligence and frustration at how annoying people are. Marnie feels real to me and I want to be her friend. And I love the swearing! It makes me so happy. To everyone involved, thank you. Please write more stories like this one. LOTS more.
