About this listen

At fourteen I was crowned champion of the VR Gladiator Games. By eighteen I was unloading junk at a warehouse without a penny to my name. Girls used to chase me. Now they wrinkle their noses in disgust. Life has given me a chance to make a comeback. But in this game, it's either triumph or perish!

Contains mature themes.

It’s too hard to explain why I want to like this book, so I’ll start by saying that the idea of it is interesting. The MC is a mixed bag of heroic, narcissist, anti hero and sexual deviant. It seems like either the author didn’t know what his personality was going to be so left it open and vague or the idea in the book of the people changing him to better suit their needs is more relevant than just an excuse for him to change..

The idea of a military training code being beta tested by gaming pros and noobs alike is interesting, there’s more to that but even if I’m not sold on the series I won’t spoil it.
I’d say that half the book is game and half is everyday life..

I don’t know if this was said in synopsis or tags but yes there is sex and mostly I’m good with it.. just the MC is not likeable at those times?! Hard to explain just I’d love to crop the MC discussing virtues then immediately play the shower scene with Miranda it’s the only way I can describe why I kinda don’t like the MC, hypocrite but also just poor execution by author, like a horny teen was describing and stating how bad he was by calling her a bitch every 2 seconds like it made sense or was in anyway sexual.. don’t get me wrong name calling and all that has it’s place in the bedroom but that…

anyway it’s a mixed bag all round I say try the book and then you leave a review as to why you like/don’t like so I can figure out if I get the rest haha.

Another VR litRPG novels with a fair bit of action and some intimate scenes. Unusually, the real-world setting is really atmospheric, while the in-game setting is a bit bland. Most of the characters are pretty selfish and nasty, which I found more realistic than a lot of books in the genre. It doesn't really have a proper ending, basically just cutting off in the middle of a scene.

The English translation is excellent and the book suffers from far fewer grammatical issues then many English-only books. there are still occasional slips, but overall it's very well written. Dialogue is punchy and flows well.

Narration is fine, with mild characterisation and only a couple of very minor audio artefacts.

Apart from the ending I'm impressed. I really want to find out what happens.

Great environment with some nasty characters
