i love the approach to the superhero genre. everything is "balanced", has limits. and the MC exploring those limits is very entertaining

Great book with great narration. I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have because I'm not really into sci-fi, but that's more my fault than the author's. This isa great story about a dude in a not-quite-earth who works out how to combine technology and magic to become awesome.

Why did I give 4 for performance and story, but 5 overall?
First performance, for the vast majority of the book the narration is fantastic. There are a few times where the narrator uses a more passive narration tone. It is really jarring and takes me out for a small moment. If I could give 4.5 I would.
The story was just really, really fun. But it definitely felt like it just meandered its way to the end and stopped when the length of the story got to the point where it needed to end... almost more for logistical reasons than narrative ones. There is no real epic climax to the story and so I'm finished without any real sense of payoff.
The characters are fun, and smart and the magic / technology systems at play give a great mix of 'magical science' (Brandon Sanderson style) and 'hand wavy mystical stuff' (Gandalf / Harry Potter).

Fun. Just really really fun.

not enough down time, it's there but would like more of it
they go into a lot of detail on the math sometimes, if you aren't into it skip it, you won't miss anything really
has a mild harem like trend atm- hopefully that resolves
only just passes the Bechdel test
