About this listen

In addition to strength, steel, and courage, a hero discovers he's in need of a friend, in the first installment of a daring and dangerous fantasy adventure.

When it comes to action and adventure, every hero needs a good sidekick. Holmes has Watson, Batman has Robin, and Daniel has...Orrin. More like brothers than friends, they always have each other's backs. And as Daniel is the big, strong, handsome type, Orrin is more than happy to remain in his shadow at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere.

Then things take a turn for the truly weird when a terrible accident catapults the pair into a world totally unlike their own, in which the rules of a role-playing game hold sway. Naturally, Daniel is classified as a "hero," while Orrin is—also naturally—relegated to the fantasy equivalent of "bleh." Nothing new there.

But in this realm populated with lethal foes both inhuman and inescapable, sticking together matters more than ever, and soon Daniel and Orrin will discover more about themselves—and each other—than either one thought possible. In fact, Orrin just might find the confidence and strength to become something other than your average sidekick....

The first volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with more than 600,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Definitely going to buy the next book. It's well written and Nick Podel was excellent as always. it's just a pity that instead of saying words (such as abilities, titles, etc) as a part of a conversation it's announced like an announcer at the start of a fight. still reccomend the book though

previous reviews nailed it

The narrator is good. But he made a weird choice and stuck with it for too long.
The book is interesting

That sure was a decision

The story was so great, intriguing, amazing, great, it had me wanting more and did I mention it was great??!!

If you like litRPGs, GET IT. If you don’t like litRPGs, GET IT. If you like fantasy, GET IT. If you like Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), GET IT. If you like Magic The Gathering, GET IT, If you like gaming, GET IT. It’s full of adventures and twists it’s just the best!

The only bad thing that was bad was that the narrator would suddenly stop in the middle of sentences and say words like classes and items big and loudly like an announcer! E.g. Daniel was a. . . HERO! And he used his. . . SWORD to kill the monster.

Overall this book had me wanting more, and I got more! There are more books in the series! I’m getting them!!

Performance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⚫️ ⚫️/5

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⚫️/5

(P.s. people are complaining about audibles 15 word minimum limit. I don’t find that a problem.)

I’m Not the Hero book 1

The story is good but the OP trope wasn’t handled well. Also, the stark way any skill etc was spoken differently even in the middle of sentences was sadly ham fisted. I can only think this was a production decision as I’ve never heard that from such a good narrator before.
Still a fun read but frustrating at times.

Bad narration decision

Lots of adventure and excitement, the narrator is great, with the plot moving along at a good pace.
Keen to listen to the next book.
