Publisher's Summary

For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

And so, Yui Shaw sets out with an ambitious plan. A 10-step plan.

She'll find a way to obtain the Hero's legendary sword. She'll earn obscure classes, gain levels, and increase her skills. She'll travel to the meticulously-crafted dungeons that seem designed for one specific Hero to complete. And, if she's truly (un)fortunate, she might even find a fairy.

She might not be a Hero - but if she can fake it long enough, she might still be able to save the world.

it's zelda adjacent fan fiction.

the book was ok, performance was good. it's a but short and rushed. leaves it's self open to a second book that could have potential. the biggest issue, though, is that it's basicly zelda fan fiction. this does take away from the story a lot. it gets old hearing about how the hero should use bombs and wear a green tunic. buy it on sale. not worth the full price.

Gaming Fantasy

I really enjoyed this audiobook. Fantastic characters with great performances. Going by the title, seemed a bit like a Japanese light novel and it certainly gave off that vibe while listening to it. The settings is a Fantasy video-game like world, complete with levels, skills, and EXP (experience) points. Andrew is certainly familiar with them and there's plenty of references to them, primary The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time. Highly recommend to any fans of it, or just gaming in general.

funny story and fantastic character

while the whole things are not exactly in 10 steps, bit misleading there, but it s still such a great story.

combining element from Zelda, Dragon quest (mainly those 2) and some other JRPGs. it does provide a breadth of fresh air into the genre even with similar rpg elements.

Best Rowe yet

This book is a fantastic homage to adventure RPGs everywhere, but most especially a certain green tunic wearing, silent, blond, elven-esque hero. Fabulous story, had me laughing at the in jokes so frequently and the narration is top notch. Favourite audio book so far, and I have ADORED all of Rowe's books so far.

Best thing I have read this year.

Hilariously original in an unoriginal way, it puts the thoughts in my head when I play zelda and dragon quest or any of those amazing gems from my childhood onto a page. The blunt fusion of terms for the names and skills gives a great captain america "I understood that reference" feeling. The demon lord was the best, amazing "actor".
Exactly what I needed.
