Publisher's Summary

Put an end to dieting and replace weight-loss struggles with this easy approach to a healthy, plant-based lifestyle. Every month seems to bring a trendy new diet or a new fad to try in order to lose weight - but these diets clearly aren’t making us any happier or healthier.

As obesity rates and associated disease and impairments continue to rise, it’s time for a different approach. How Not to Diet is a treasure trove of buried data and cutting-edge dietary research that Dr Michael Greger has translated into accessible, actionable advice with exciting tools and tricks that will help you to safely lose weight and eliminate unwanted body fat - for good.

Dr Greger, renowned nutrition expert, physician, and founder of nutritionfacts.org, explores the many causes of obesity - from our genes to the portions on our plate to other environmental factors - and the many consequences, from diabetes to cancer to mental health issues.

From there, Dr Greger breaks down a variety of approaches to weight loss, honing in on the optimal criteria that enable success, including: a diet high in fibre and water, a diet low in fat, salt, and sugar, and a diet full of anti-inflammatory foods.

How Not to Diet then goes beyond food to explore the many other weight-loss accelerators available to us in our body’s systems, revealing how plant-based meals can be eaten at specific times to maximise our bodies’ natural fat-burning activities.

Dr Greger provides a clear plan not only for the ultimate weight loss diet but also the approach we must take to that diet to unlock its greatest efficacy.

How I am educating my family

The book is information heavy and doesn’t start quite like I expected, but when I break it down into lesson plans for my kids homeschool there is enough for their entire High school curriculum. Plus their friends listen to it when I am in charge of car pooling and it starts great conversations ♥️ my nay saying hubby even sees the sense in it. Looking forward to not dieting ♥️ will listen over and over. Thanks team 🥦🥦

Greger Putting It to the Test

Michael Greger presents the science of nutrition in a very engaging way. I’ve been obese my whole life and wish a book like this had been written years ago. I can now say ‘I’ve tried every single diet in the book ‘ 😂 thanks Dr Greger for presenting the facts !!

Comprehensive and reassuring

This is the last weight loss book you'll need to buy. Full of actionable, science based recommendations and it doesn't sugar coat any of the conclusions. Found it very reassuring on my path to improve health.

The truth is here... "let's put it to the test"

FINALLY... the TRUTH! Dr. Greger has delivered an outstanding array of simple strategies that literally anyone can use and implement into their lives straight away. They have been developed based on fact, not fiction or fancy advertising - no smoke and mirrors here. "How not to Diet" is an easy-to-understand, practical guide that takes the hard work out of sifting through all the myths and downright lies, and exposes the truth, backed by real science, about how we become overweight and unwell, who is keeping us there, and how to fix it... permanently.

If you're anything like me, you've tried every new gimmicky diet, starved yourself, popped a myriad of useless (if not downright dangerous) pills and potions, and nearly killed yourself with back-breaking exercises, not to mention the countless dollars you've donated to so-called gurus with their "miracle" gadgets and elixirs... and you're still overweight, unhealthy and unhappy! If you've tried everything and failed, your bloods and numbers are all over the place, and you want the truth about how you got here, who really helped you get here, and how to fix it, "How not to Diet" is your one-stop shop for facts and simple, do-able strategies. Just "put it to the test".

Excellent template for a healthy life

I had just listened to How Not To Die and went straight onto How Not To Die. I listen while I walk the dogs for one hour a day so have had 30+ days of Dr Gregor in my ear, and I'm still not tired of listening to this valuable information.

Both books have a different slant and are both worth the time and money. I have now changed my life completely, I was a half hearted vegan, I'm now fully whole foods, plant based and feeling amazing.

I would thoroughly recommend this book. It might add years to your life.

By the way, I listened at 1.5 speed and that seemed about right.

I really tried but l...

Please re-release this with a new narrator! I really tried to listen but it was insufferable! At first I thought I’d had my narration speed up by accident but didn’t. The tone is breathy and changes from very fast to very slow. It was far too distracting from the content to bother continuing. Very disappointed.

The narration is unlistenable

I thought there was a problem with the recording the narrator is very poor. He sounds like he’s putting on a mock sarcastic tone can’t get past the preface. I’ll get this one on kindle I think.

Interesting but annoying narration

You may as well have got Jeff Goldblum to narrate this ... the most annoying narration ever ! It’s so annoying that you can’t concentrate on the content .. shame on you audible for not pointing this out to the author ... I’m sure he’s capable of not being so annoying.

He’s my idol - it’s an amazing book .
His narration is well irritating though - stop trying to be so vocally entertaining- it’s hard to listen too

My Favourite Doctor!

I love Dr Gregor, I’ve recently gone plant based due to his last book ‘how not to die’ and thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. How not to diet is just as thorough and provides well researched evidential advise on best dieting tips. Would 100% recommend all his books, his website and his podcasts.

Exceptional advice

Dr Michael Greger is, without doubt, the most important voice in nutrition advice in the world.
Follow the advice in this book and you will lose weight and be the healthiest you can be.
The reading style takes a little time to get used to and may irritate some but for me added to my enjoyment of the book.
Thank you for the hard work of Dr Greger and his team in bringing the science of diet for health and weight loss to the overweight and unhealthy world in which we now live.

The author narrates this himself and does so in a very animated and difficult to listen to fashion

Love informative real bases

Very informative science fact based, giving all the tools and comprehensive processes to understand everything which has motivated me to change my habits and move in the right direction. Possibly a little long winded chapter on government support (especially as i am not American) but i can forgive the occasional boring part.

Riverting

A long listen, but worth it. Huge detail on all aspects of food intake and Dr G is brilliant at communicating what could be a dry subject. Well worth the time spent absorbing so much deail and the science of what you should eat, how you should eat and when you should eat - Highly recommended 10/10
