Why the whispering

The whispering makes it difficult to listen to. If not using headphones. Story wise it was good. Looking forward to the next.

A compelling read

While i have only begun playing Dungeons and Dragons(5e) recently, one name mentioned in equal parts reverence and sarcasm keeps popping up - Drizzt the Dark Elf. Here in this book is his epic beginning and the tale of his start towards legend.

I can see how R.A. Salvatore is so loved by so many. His writing is easy to comprehend and multilayered without becoming confusing. He built a world that I enjoyed hating, deep within the Underdark. And whilst the trials of Drizzt Doh'ertan and the politics of Drow society were certainly compelling, Drizzt did begin to strike me as a little too perfect near the end of the book, getting away with far too much. That may just be a mark of the times, however, where heroic figures could do no wrong - or rather, get away with doing wrong much too often. The obvious lead up to the sequel irks me, but not so much - I do look forward to the next book, which i will be purchasing after this review.

In short, a good read for people who love fantasy of a pulpy nature, and a must-have for DnD players and fans alike.

The fantasy story I needed

How has it taken me so long to discover the joy of the forgotten realms stories! But in a way, I'm glad I can enjoy them now, I don't think I would have appreciated them as much at a younger age. I loved everything about this book, and am so looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Great story, even better performance.

I really enjoyed the story but felt it was a bit short. Apparently it's made for teens, but I couldn't tell aside from the the lack of cursing or sex, which in retrospect I think if it did have it would be a bit more "real" feeling or personable. However, the story it self was still really enjoyable, despite the purposeful glumness of the world. I really liked the connection between Drizzt and Zak but I won't go into that as to not to spoil the story.

I felt like the narrator had a really good voice! So perfect for this setting. Not too exaggerated or overdone but still capturing.
