It is destined to be the definitive work

Amazingly detailed, possibly too many details for a casual listener, It explains a lot about the Carolingian Dynasty, jurisprudence, and conflict resolution that continues to influence to this day in both Europe and some extent North America.

Expecting More, average book.

This book is terminally dull, mainly because of a failed attempt at breaking the material topically, which involves a lot of backing and frothing.

Excellent

I was initially hesitant to buy anything from the "Captivating History" line because I had some preconceived notion that it was a company that hired broke history majors to throw together a quick narrative, as opposed to an expert in a particular historical subject writing an engaging and informative work. Boy, was I wrong. I was very pleased with the quality of this book, and I learned a great deal about the Holy Roman Empire and Carolingian Empire. I'll definitely be getting more books from the Captivating History series in the future.

An excellent history of an abundant empire.

It is well traced, and possibly tends towards the academic rather than being populist history, but as long as that's what you want, it's an essential content.

Amazing book

Well written and engaging. Any Roman history nerd will get a lot from this book.
Instead of bringing in every conceivable person and event - the author has looked at the evidence for what we know or think we know. I enjoyed it.

Needs facts not details.

This audible provides an irresistible amount of facts about a long period in history. But it lacks on general description. The junk of facts do not give one a large depiction of what was happening.

The Holy Roman Empire the subject that I have bee

The Holy Roman Empire the subject that I have been long fascinated by, though I hadn't known much about. I was looking for a long history and how it came to be. There is something to learn but not as my liking.

Solid but not too much comprehensive

"A Captivating Guide to the Holy Roman Empire and Carolingian Dynasty" is a well-regarded book. Still, I would not recommend it because its not that much comprehensive; you can try it.

Exhaustive and Interesting

This is an exhaustive if the narrow, study of not even era ascent and drop of figures within the Roman Empire. Highly academic and consumed with minutia, this not swords and sandals, and Shakespearean speeches.

The book is wonderfully follow-able

Captivating History points out that the Romans were rather unusual in their glorification of war and violence, but were typical of their period. And I love the fact that the author points out that Romans were every bit as complicated as the Greeks who looked down their beaks at their Italian neighbors.
