About this listen

When Felix lands a job taking care of a man recovering from severe injuries, he thinks his life may have just turned around. Anything has to be better than the place he's leaving. There's something about Lane that draws Felix to him and makes him question if this place could finally become a home for him. But when someone begins stalking Felix, he is left to question who Lane is and what actually happened to him.

Together, Felix and Lane will be forced to see just how far they will go to protect each other. Being chased by cops, kidnapping a man, and breaking into a drug operation seems to be his normal since arriving in Lane's life. Felix may be out of his element, but one thing he is sure about is that he doesn't want to leave, even if it costs him his life.

Hilarious, thrilling and suspenseful all in one. I love Felix. He has so much sass, snark and wit, Joel has done an amazing job bringing him to life! Cant wait for more and look forward to see what trouble Felix finds himself in next time!

So good!!!

At first I thought this was going to be a bedroom book, after all they're in bed by chapter 2.
But oh I was so wrong! funny, fast, sad. These two guys can get into more trouble in 5 pages than the whole of the MCU universe across all its movies.
Definitely listening to the next two books and I'm sure they will be just as crazy as this one

what a ride

Well written. Main character has loose morals and as a consequence of his upbringing has difficulty believing he has worth and is loveable.

Hidden in darkness by Alice winters. Love the banter between the main characters. With this it started off to be quite funny and the storyline just grew from there into a cops verses robbers type of book

banter x 10

The book starts strong and sucked me in. The banter between the characters starts as excellent, clearly painting a picture of who they are. Felix’s character makes the book what it is: He is adorable.

Unfortunately within a few chapters, there’s an unrealistic escalation of the story and what was enjoyable banter soon becomes repetitive and off putting toxic verbal abuse, ill-disguised as comedy.

However, i thankfully pushed through and a high paced gripping story emerged. Excellent crescendo and ending.

I haven’t been a fan of this narrator’s other works but did enjoy this one, he did a good job differentiating between characters and adding emotion.

Will definitely read the sequel, I’m hooked.

Push through the middle barrier, it’s worth it

Joel has bought to life these characters and portrayed their relationship very well! I enjoyed the banter between them. Was a very exciting book to listen to.

Hot and thrilling and yet amusing

I saw a review that said there banter turned into borderline abuse played for laughs but it was all sarcasm he didn’t want to be treated differently so the dude didn’t. It was weird how they started there relationship but other than that pretty good. Tw for getting beaten up by a bunch of dudes and also a tiny bit of torture and explanations of an abusive family and ppl manipulated into prostitution but none of it is graphic apart from the beating from the bunch of dudes

I really don’t like the narrator

This really grew on me. Lane was an undercover cop blinded in the course of duty. Felix is hired to look after him. Lane is angry, Felix is irreverent. A nice romance / thriller with lots of humour!

This feels more like an action movie novel with lots of banter between the characters.
Starts off almost like a usual MM romance, rough start but warm up in time and it kind of starts like that, then launches into a fast-paced action story.
I like the narrator I think as always Joel did a great job as I'm sure in the future AI will probably take over narration, whether people like it or not, but for now it hasn't happened yet, so we get real people.
Overall, I think this is fine its just so speedy and dramatic in a action story type way, I don't know, it just felt unreal.
Anyway, if you like a lot of action in your romance then this is for you, I liked the main characters and the minor characters I feel the like author is great at have real lively characters in this book, I just would like a story that's maybe more in depth or edited, I don't know.
Solid story regardless.

Slow start, Fast paced near the end

This sounded good and the reviews were raves. But like so much gay fiction, the alpha is all butch and manly, hard and tough on the outside but a real softy. The sub is a whiny, petulant girl masquerading as a gay man. The humour has all been said before and I found the story silly and sillier as it dragged on. If you want a better written crime novel with a gay detective, look up Mark Lock. He has two featuring the same detective. Neither is full of sex but the stories are better and the detective’s gayness is not as cliched.

Annoying, not particularly funny and cliched
