Publisher's Summary

Felix and Lane are trying out their new normal. Normal means no more car chases, no more drug lords, and definitely no more kidnapping bad guys. All of that is a thing of the past in this new, normal(ish) life style filled with family get-togethers, torturous jogs through the park, and the occasional romp in the parking lot. Felix is done stealing (all but for the cat). He is actually enjoying the boring side of life, especially with Lane by his side doing what he does best: looking handsome. But when Felix's brother wants to repair their relationship, he brings with him a secret that could cost all of them their lives.

Lane isn't complaining because the thrills of life-threatening situations are right up his alley. They may think they have a handle on the situation, but what they do not know is that someone has been working them from the shadows. Forcing them to do exactly what he wants as he drives them closer to his sick game of life and death.

Join Felix and Lane in a race against time, their only weapons being their humor and their wit.

A fun and scary rollercoaster!

Felix, irreverent petty thief, and Lane, newly blind undercover cop, cops with family and a crazed psychopath. Parts of the story were very funny and parts were very scary, I was amazed to feel both emotions so strongly! I love the banter between Felix and Lane and really enjoyed the roller coaster ride.

Entertaining

I love books that can make me laugh out loud. Mission accomplished! So entertaining and such interesting fun characters. I wish there were more books like this. I am a bit sick of the same old vapid pathetic stories. I loved the combination of comedy, action and romance. The narration was so easy to listen to, I could see these characters so clearly. Thank you. I hope these two get to carry on with more entertaining adventures.

This series only gets more hilariously amazing!

First of all....how to opine about Joel Leslie? He is an amazing narrator and the banter back and forth that is essential in this series is right up his alley. The first book is very action packed and the plot is convoluted due to deep undercover and police corruption issues. The second book is much more domesticated, same page, and too curious for their own good sort of tale. I loved the sarcasm, continued expansion of family members closeness and even possible future spawn (gasp!) the story meanders wonderfully and then gets Super Dramatic for the last few hours. Be prepared to want to yell at the characters as they awkwardly go out to investigate alone the equivalent of “what’s that noise?” in a horror movie and confront obvious villains.

Another great adventure, tons of laughs and heart.

Lane and Felix..... that should be enough for Alice winters fans, the adventure was great, the snark was amazing, I can’t decide who’s delivery is better, dry dead pan or as cheeky as it comes. Either way, amazing! and the end was so unexpected.

Overall a good story

I enjoy Felix and Lane. They are funny and fit well. In this story there are a few twists and turns. I found myself actually yelling at them for some “stupid” decisions, but it all works out in the end.

waiting on the shaky narrator to cry.

I liked the storyline, the twists were fun. the narrator made me think of a shaky Liza Mannelli. or someone on the brink of crying. it would have made a much better listen without so.many hesitations.

Absolutely a must listen!!

This is the first time I’ve finished a series and immediately start over! The story is great, so funny, smexy times sprinkled in, mystery and the main characters don’t have stupid miscommunications that hinder their relationship. I don’t ever buy extra credits, but I did for this series!! Joel Leslie does an amazing job and has great timing with the jokes. Just love love it!!! Don’t pass these up! Hope there will be more with these guys involved and sticking their noses where they don’t belong. 😂😂

Another Outstanding Adventure for Felix and Lane

I loved this sequel to Hidden in Darkness, a story made real by the distinct voices of the very talented Joel Leslie. I’m not sure which is my favorite character: Felix with his hyper personality and oddball sense of humor or Lane with his steadfast, logical presence and his dry sense of humor—the straight man to Felix’s antics. But in this installment, though humor gets them through some tumultuous times, the situations they find themselves in are serious, and they have to fight for survival. In fact, there are hair-raising adventures and a race against the clock for Felix to keep Lane from drowning as a madman has him locked in a tank into which water is slowly running. Felix’s creativity and ingenuity are the only tools he has to save his love’s life. (view spoiler) Felix’s brother keeps coming to Felix for help and Felix acts out the definition of insanity as he keeps going back to helping him again and again and expecting a different result. And his brother? He’s no Felix and there were (many) moments when I wanted to smack him. Lane’s family, though? They are rock solid, loving, funny, warm, and giving, and they’ve embraced Felix as their own. All these characters come to life with very different personalities and the voices to go with them due to Joel’s ability to split his personality into a hundred different people when he’s performing. Can you tell he’s a favorite? Yes, I have no doubt I’d have enjoyed the story anyway, but the experience was so much better in audio. Thanks for another outstanding performance, Joel. I can’t wait for more antics from Lane and Felix.

As good as the first book

As with the first book, this is a hidden gem. Exciting action, good relationship and I found myself laughing out loud many many times. There’s a psychological thriller element to this book too, but despite the fact that I’m not a fan of being scared, I loved it and found it exciting. This is so much better than the usual boring trope out there, and it’s refreshing to have a proper plot that hooks me so much that I listen to it all on my headphones in one day. Hope there’s more from this author on Audible soon because the two books from this series have been fantastic.

Felix and Lane kick psychopath ass!

Another triumph from Alice Winters. Felix and Lane are as snarky and sassy as ever and this acts as a perfect counterpoint to the Darkness of the story. Wonderfully narrated by the amazing Joel Leslie, he's one of my favourite narrators because if his versatility and range. Loved every second.

Hilarious

Excellent narration. The story was okay but the interplay of the main characters made the book. Not many writers or narrator's can make me laugh out loud but this book did it, on many occasions

Brilliant sequel

Wonderfully exciting story again. The pace picks up towards the ends so dramatically and I just couldn’t stop listening. I had to know what happens next to Felix and Lane. Exceptional narration by Joel Leslie. He has the ability to enhance the moment increasing the mood so you can visualise and feel what is going on. Definitely on my listen again list. I do hope Alice Winters has more books planned and Joel will narrate them.

Brilliant sequel!

I had so much fun listening to this 😀 The story is original and interesting, the dialogue witty and the feelings between Felix and Lane are perfect - love, snark sprinkled with humour. The icing on the cake is Joel Leslie's performance! He is the perfect choice for Felix and Lane (and the others). He does a great job with the sly humour, funny lines and the suspense. I absolutely loved the story and narration, the only spot on an otherwise perfect book, is the overuse of 'he says', 'I say'. (Not enough to detract from my enjoyment).

Great second book

I absolutely adore Lane and Felix! This second book is best enjoyed after reading the first but not essential it can be read as a stand alone, however I feel to really appreciate the relationship between Lane and Felix you would benefit by reading the books in order. The snarky, sarcastic humour between the two MC’s is just my cup of tea and had me belly laughing. Having a disability myself I know how important it is to be able retain a sense of humour without offending anyone and I feel the author Alice Winters, achieved this perfectly. As for Joel Leslie, his narration was sublime! He was Lane and Felix, his comedic timing and performance was just what was needed for these two characters and I couldn’t imagine anyone else narrating this series of books.
