About this listen

From the legendary New York Times best-selling author of Flowers in the Attic and My Sweet Audrina (now Lifetime movies) comes the first book in the Casteel Family series - for fans of Emma Donoghue (Room) and Kay Hooper (Amanda).

Of all the folks on the mountain, the Casteel children are the lowest. Even the families that buy them think so.

Heaven Leigh Casteel may be the prettiest, smartest girl in the backwoods, but her cruel father and weary stepmother work her like a mule. For the sake of her brother Tom and the other little ones, Heaven clings to the hope that someday she can show the world they are worthy of love and respect.

But when the children’s stepmother can’t take it anymore and abandons the family, Heaven’s father hatches a scheme that will alter her young life forever. Being sold to a strange couple is just the beginning; ripping away the thin veneer of civilization and learning the adult secrets of the world around her means Heaven must abandon someone, too - the child she was, to become the woman her mother never had the chance to be.

I really wish I had read the reviews first before purchasing. The Vocal fry, and the weird way the narrator chose to emphasise and place inflection on some words was hard to listen to.

Awful Narration

I loved being able to relive my favourite book once again while listening at work. The narrator doesn't sound the best, she doesn't do the character justice and has some annoying reading habits, and there was some audio missing at the beginning of some chapters (lucky I know it inside and out) but overall definitely worth listening whether you've read the book or not. Just don't bother with the movie!

Always been my favourite book

I’m surprised by the other reviews on this book, I absolutely loved this story and the narrator. I wish I could listen to it for the first time again.

Narrator talks a bit too slow and the accent is a bit annoying. Was good to listen to a book I enjoyed reading as a teenager

For anyone reading this save your money and skip this one. How to completely, within 30 seconds destroy an absolutely wonderful story.
I was so excited to download and enjoy this book again after reading it in my teens . I cannot even express how awful the sound was of the narrator the cracked voice. Every sentence was like listening to nails down a chalkboard. The over exaggerated tone when it’s not needed and the only reason I even listen to this story enough was so I could write this review, had to have it playing on silent in the background. Audible, I want my credit back for this rubbish.

Beyond disappointed
