Publisher's Summary

Sometimes a girl is touched by mother war

Thorn is such a girl. Desperate to avenge her dead father, she lives to fight. But she has been named murderer by the very man who trained her to kill.

Sometimes a woman becomes a warrior.

Fate traps her in the schemes - and on the ship - of the deep-cunning minister Father Yarvi. Crossing half the world to find allies against the ruthless High King, she learns harsh lessons of blood and deceit.

Sometimes a warrior becomes a weapon.

Beside her on her gruelling journey is Brand, a young warrior who hates to kill. A failure in his eyes and hers, he has one chance at redemption. And weapons are made for one purpose. Will Thorn forever be a tool in the hands of the powerful or can she carve her own path? Is there a place beyond legend for a woman with a blade?

hard not to compare narrators

narration is bland and monotone in character and delivery.
especially compared with Steven Pacey
which I'm sure, most who bought this audiobook were expecting, if not Steven Pacey, none the less an epic performance.
nope, weirdest choice. I'd have awaited some other talent. story is good. makes me decide to begin reading again instead of audiobooks slavery.

WOW and here he is!

Now he has my attention. I reviewed the first book and said it was tame for Abercrombie which makes sense because I think he aimed the trilogy at young adults. I prefer him writing his dark adult fantasy, but you know, when I got to this one, book 2, and the character viewpoint changed and the story got so much better and I was glued to every page - well, I thought HERE HE IS! He is truly a GOD in the fanatsy genre - for all adults young and old!

only slightly better than the 1st book

Abercrombie and Elliot combine for a fantastic adventure story. I look forward to the next book.

Good book

Good continuation of book one. Some events were obvious from the beginning others were surprising.

great listen

Read the first book and was sad when it ended. This book is a great addition to the saga. I hope another one comes out soon.
Well narrated too!

Wonderful

Terrific novel. A powerful and subtle journey beautifully written. Surprisingly touching with touches of humour and plenty of original ideas. Simply excellent.
