Publisher's Summary

King Grim Vasteri is the strongest and most feared warrior in the Tornian Empire. He is the King of Luda, blood brother to the Emperor, and his line will die with him. He will have no offspring for no female would join with him for once he was scarred he was considered "unfit". The Tornian Empire has been dying ever since the great infection caused the birth of females to become a rarity. Since then they have been searching the known universes for compatible females. The Emperor's discovery of a compatible female on a slave ship changed that. He'd ordered Grim to find his Empress's home world so more "unprotected" females could be obtained, knowing Grim would never be allowed to Join with one.

Lisa Miller is a widowed mother of two little girls, Carly and Miki. Her husband died just a year ago, after a long battle with cancer and she misses him immensely. Friends want her to start dating again but in her heart, she knows there isn't a man on the planet she could love like her Mark. Who could love their girls like their own. Therefore, she'll stay alone.

When Lisa is discovered "unprotected" at her husband's grave, she wakes on an alien ship heading for an alien world. Refusing to accept this she confronts the large males, demanding she be returned to her children. Seeing his chance to have a female, Grim agrees to accept and protect her offspring, if she agrees to Join with him and only him. Realizing this is the only way she can retrieve her children Lisa agrees, and the Tornian Empire changes forever.

Great beginning to a series

I have listened to this book several times and enjoy it over and over. I like the theme behind the story. A lot of effort has been put in to the production and it makes the book come alive. I like listening to dual voices. Well worth the cost.

Humans kidnapped!

This story I have read quite a few times. I love the series and look forward to more. The narrator had a few issues with names and the word Quite (!) was read as Quiet. This is only the second book I have had read to me, so I suppose it will depend on the narrator on how I feel about the whole hearing it read out to me.

Awesome!

I love this audio book. I have listened to it many times for the feel good story and great dual narration. I also love the sound effects, making it more like a radio play. This was my first audio book by M K Eidem and now I have listened to all the other audio books by M K Eidem, and can recommend them all. Grim is an alien abduction romance, with some sexual content, so for an adult audience. Grim, or rather King Grim, has been sent by his brother, the Emperor Wary, to kidnap 12 "unprotected women" for mates of worthy males. Females in the Tornian empire are outnumbered by men 100 to one, and are thus a rare and treasured commodity. Lisa, the last of the women secured from earth, is abducted while she is seated by the graveside of her husband, Mark. Lisa awakes on the spaceship, devastated to realise that her two small children are unprotected on earth. None of the warriors were willing to help Lisa as off-spring of others are unwelcome. Then Grim, the huge scarred bronze warrior, agrees to return to collect her offspring and claim them as his own on condition that she join with him and only him. Grim being scarred is considered as "unworthy" of a female due his scars, and this contract with Lisa offers him a chance of a female and heir. To his delight, and the chagrin of other warriors on the ship, Lisa's offspring, Carly and Miki, are female, thus securing his position and status. There is intrigue, action, romance and a HEA.

The story is true but the audiobook is a mixed bag

Would you listen to Grim again? Why?

I would listen to Grim again because M.K. Eidem's novel is engaging. I'd also listen to it again just to hear Commodore James' raspy Grim impersonation.

What did you like best about this story?

Although Grim and Lisa's relationship progressed really quickly early on, the author was able to grow their understanding of each other through their interactions and misunderstandings.

Have you listened to any of Commodore James and Laura Jennings ’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I've never listened to either Commodore James or Laura Jennings' other performances. Commodore James has a really lovely cadence to his narration that feels very un-rushed. He also does the Grim and Wray voices very well but unfortunately for every other male character sounds whiny or as though they have either a speech impediment or a learning disability. Laura Jennings is a talent but her casting was wrong for Lisa's character since her voice has a shaky quality that was really distracting and sounded really elderly.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would listen to it all in one setting for the narration and Grim's parts alone.

Any additional comments?

Honestly when I first heard Lisa, I thought she was an old woman. In the novel, Lisa is only 24 years old but Laura Jennings makes her sound like an 80 year old woman. A complete turn off.

Magnificent

I have already read the digital copy of this book a few times and I can't get enough of Grim and Lisa's story. It has everything u want in a story,
hot sexy alien, feisty beautiful heroines, edge of your seat action, drama and most of all a sense of humour that Made me laugh.
i felt every emotions the characters felt, the narrators portrayed the leading characters as i have imagined them to be, specially Grim and his husky/hoarse voice.
The only criticism i can make is the female narrator has one distinctive voice and so when she portrayed the other womens including Carly and Mikey, I couldn't tell the difference because her voice never changed, they all sound like Lisa. Apart from that am giving it five star*****

WOW!!!

This is the first time that I have written a review but after listening to this book, 3 times, I just had.
The Tornian Empire where the story takes place and where women are few and far between and Earth women are much sought after. Enter our hero Grim, a 7 foot+, very muscular and extremely hot warrior and Lisa a 5ft nothing earth woman
Yes the sex scenes are explicit but very well done and there is actually a very good story as well.
I won't put any more as it would spoil the book but I have just bought the second book called Wray
A great story, sex romance, what more can a girl ask for

GET THIS BOOK IF YOU LOVE SCI FI

Would you listen to Grim again? Why?

Yes I would listen to Grim again it's a wonderful story and an amazing book. I've re-read the book every time a new one is release just to enjoy reading it again and again. Now that I've gotten the audiobook it just means I can sit back close my eyes and imagine this in my mind again and again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Grim?

When she stood on the floor of the claiming area and claimed him as hers ..... I wanted to get up and beat them myselves with how they treated them... Really made you feel for the characters in the book.

What does Commodore James and Laura Jennings bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Having a story read by a male and female narrator brings and added dimension to the story. You can actually hear the characters interacting and imagine the scenes taking place much easier.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes very definately. I love M.K. Eidems works and have all her books to date. She's an amazing author and I'm looking forward to the new releases.

Any additional comments?

M.K. Eidem is a relatively new Sci-Fi Romance author who I was introduced to when a friend bought me one of her books. I've bought everything she has released to date as her books keep you wanting more and you can't wait for the next installment of the story. My only complaint ..... she doesn't write them quick enough. But in all honesty what an amazing author and if this is just the beginning I can't wait to see what happens further down the road when she's more established.

A Bland Moderately Saucy Beauty and the Beast tale

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, I'd have introduced the Lords of the noble houses earlier in the story and try to mislead readers a bit in order generate more suspense and interest. The story line was just too predictable and our heroine way too perfect and eager.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The description of the aliens and their different worlds was too brief and unconvincing. A little more detail about the power-struggles and political games between the noble houses would have added a multi-dimensional more complex approach to the main plot thereby intellectually stimulating readers as well as entertaining them.

What about Commodore James and Laura Jennings ’s performance did you like?

I enjoyed the interplay of voices, the way each took turn to represent the male and female voices respectively.

Do you think Grim needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No. There wasn't enough of a (interesting) story to build-upon.

Wow...love love love this story!

I have both the audible and the written version of this story. I love it's format of having males play males and women play women, it allows my to sit back and listen as the story comes to life in my mind...I wish all my kindle favourites did it this way! Highly recommended!

Grim

I must say that this book was very good, and that the action and dialogue was excellent. When Grim and Lisa with her daughters arrived in Tornian you knew that something was important was going to happen I was very pleased with the results and look forward to Ynyr's story
