Publisher's Summary

A ruthless young assassin continues her journey for revenge in this new epic fantasy from New York Times best-selling author Jay Kristoff.

Conquer your fear; conquer the world.

Mia Corvere, destroyer of empires, has found her place among the Blades of Our Lady of Blessed Murder, but many in the Red Church ministry do not believe she has earned it.

Her position is precarious, and she's still no closer to exacting revenge for the brutal death of her family. But after a deadly confrontation with an old enemy, Mia begins to suspect the motives of the Red Church itself.

When it is announced that Consul Scaeva and Cardinal Duomo will be making a rare public appearance at the conclusion of the grand games in Godsgrave, Mia defies the church and sells herself into slavery for a chance to fulfil the promise she made on the day she lost everything.

Upon the sands of the arena, Mia finds new allies, bitter rivals, and more questions about her strange affinity for the shadows. But as conspiracies unfold, secrets are revealed and the body count rises within the collegium walls, Mia will be forced to choose between her loyalties and her revenge.

"Come for the vengeful assassins, stay for the fear-drinking shadowcats. Godsgrave is a stylish, fast-paced and welcome return to the world of Nevernight." (Peter Newman)

Flawless

Honestly, I couldn't find a complaint to make here if I tried. Plot, character development, structure, they're all managed artfully and the voice actor is the cherry on top of an already ridiculous cake.

A surprisingly enjoyable sequel

This is an outstanding sequel to the first book.

I genuinely thought I wouldn't enjoy the book, however it was riveting and compelling. Admittedly there were sections that were less enticing. Overall the feel remained true to the first book.

I enjoyed the character development, and whilst I didn't agree with the character actions I did find that the actions were true to character.

It was also satisfying to watch the word building and learn more of the dark.

I read the first book, so coming to terms with the reader took a little while. By the end I felt he fit the book well.

It's nice to listen to a book with a realistic female protagonist. She makes no apologies for being broken.

Fantastic but why does the person reading make Eclipses voice male

The story is great, predictable but still fantastic, although I’m not to keen of the reading, mostly because of the way Eclipse is described as being female but the voice the reader givers her is a very husky humans voice.

Dive right in

Dive into this series - it is action-packed and full of grim raw fantasy. Love it. We go deeper into the background story but it is still as good as book 1, ending with an almighty cliffhanger. Wonderful - do yourself a favour!

Assassin turned Gladiator

Editor's introduction- "Good turn to you gentlefriends. It's lovely to see you again. I confess, I missed you in our time apart. And now, reunited, would that I could simply greet you with a smile, and let you be about the business of murder and revenge and occasional lashings if tastefully written smut."

That last sentence pretty much sums the book up perfectly. While the whole thing captures Jays great writing and wit. My love for Jay Kristoff is growing evermore.

Deep in the bowels of Roman Empire esk Itryea, Mia is working as a Blade for the Red Church. While her murder count continues to grow she hatches a plan to overthrow the two men who ruined her life.

This book takes a turn quite different to the last. It develops greatly on Irteya and the underbelly that shows how rotten the empire really is. We meet new people and continue to see the old.

Good story, monotonous narration

Almost couldn’t finish. Good story but monotonous narration. Characters speak with annoying tonality, speed, and exaggeration.

Perfect

Amazing story, amazing performance, an amazing listen. It doesn’t get better than this.
The writing is beautiful and the narration perfectly portrays each character. This book is just so enjoyable to listen to. It’s fun, exciting, heart wrenching, hilarious and bloody entertaining.

Awesome story but audio needs to be re-edited

Amazing writing by Jay and excellence performance by the voice actor but the sound editing needs more work. There are many instances where you can hear the actor swallow/exhale and at one point you can even hear his chair creaking. The sounds kind of grossed me out and were definitely distracting, like someone's mouth right up next to your ear. It isn't constant however and the performance and writing overshadow the sounds so I wouldn't dissuade you from listening to it unless you are easily distracted.
