Publisher's Summary

Decorated U.S. military veteran-turned-country musician Keni Thomas gives a personal account of his heart-wrenching experiences in the chaotic 1993 Battle of Mogadishu to express a unique set of leadership lessons and inspired view of our greater purpose. Get It On! reminds listeners "that we, as individuals, do indeed matter, that we are anything but ordinary, fully capable of carrying out life-changing assignments at any level and in any situation. We can make a difference in this world."

Carrying a guitar now rather than a rifle, Keni also shares stories from the stage of the Grand Ole Opry to overseas concerts for active soldiers, always passionate about the battle that "still shapes my thoughts on a daily basis" and eager to encourage the absolute best in those who are willing to answer whatever call God places on their lives.

The chapters were off

The issue was when it was chapter 12 that would show up on my screen the narrator would always say the chapter before that in this case chapter 11 and then the narrator would start reading

Excellent book!

This book is an emotional experience in leadership and combat. It’s amazing that the narrative is done by the author. His personality is relatable and humorous but he’s professional and serious about his duty. He does an amazing job paying respect to his fallen comrades in telling their story. Excellent read! Highly recommend!

hilarious, realistic, humble, and due respect.

everything about this man makes me proud to have served my country alongside such men (my commander in basic was one of the men named during this book) and to b a christian warrior. he displays that christian doesnt mean ur on ur knees 24/7, it means everything and more of what he speaks about. we all have a role to play, its inspiring and fills me with hope that i might find my purpose as he has.

Great for everyone! Infectious and inspiring with a great message.

Keni is a talented skillful storyteller! I was recommended this book in 2011 and read it in one sitting! I’ve since bought it on Audible and have revisited it many times at least once a year whether by rereading or listening! I prefer listening to Keni though! His enthusiasm is infectious and his message is clear. He’s living what he preaches every day.

I first listened to this book reeling from divorce, the advice helpful then, and have since applied Keni’s message in so many ways whether it’s raising my son or leading my employees as a new manager. I’m listening to it again now and applying it into my new position I’ve advanced into.

If you’re non military as I am, you will not regret this book! I have recommended it to many people many times, and now I do to you. Although this is a military based book, the message is very clear, people are counting on you, and although it may not be a matter of life or death, it is still just as important. As a leader, your employees depend on you as much as you depend on them. Train, prepare, and most of all believe in them, count on them, create a team that you can count on no matter what, especially when the you-know-what hits the fan, and be the leader they need and you want them to be. And in the words of SFC Sean T. Watson which rings through my head often “it’s better to have and not need, then to need and not have”, no matter what you lead whether it’s a household or a billion dollar corporation or a platoon of soldiers, failing to plan is a plan to fail.

Thank you Keni for bringing your story and your message to us and thank you to the men on your left and your right for making sure that happened. As the saying goes, if you make a difference in one persons life it’s worth it, you have made a difference in many. And, thank you Keni and all troops for your service.

I highly recommend this book!

This is not just a story about one persons experiences in war but in life as well. A good story it is too! I want to thank the author for sharing this story with me. It seems that we always get lost in the fog of war. The historians try to always paint history in black & white shades & in doing so the stories of the individual soldier who has to fight those battles and live with the results of fighting those battles seems to get lost to the world. Kenni you do have a gift my friend & thank you for sharing it!

A story of Heros

First off, Keni - Thank you and your battalion for your service.
Thank you for an incredible book. The writing was a nice balance of the story, background, interesting facts and best of all - how with perfection you weaved God's word through the story.
Thank you for narrating the book with the same enthusiasm and entertainment you bring to your live performance.
I found myself captivated, entertained, inspired, encouraged, educated and very proud to be an American.
Keep singing your song Brother.

Thank God for you and men and women like you.

DOWNLOAD IT NOW! Keni does a great job!

Would you listen to Get It On! again? Why?

I've listened to it at least 3 times and I read the hard back! Keni tells a great story and gives good advise about life and lessons he learned. Keni is a fantastic individual.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well besides Keni, my favorite character in the book is David Floyd or maybe Melvin. Keni describes them both so well and they have big personalities. You can tell how much time he spent with these men by how he describes them.

Which character – as performed by Keni Thomas – was your favorite?

Probably Melvin Dejesus.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

GET IT ON!

Any additional comments?

Keni Thomas is a nashville country music singer, a former ranger from the battle of Mogadishu, he volunteers with USO, and is a christian. This is a great role model and someone to learn from. He gives a good account of his life's lessons in this book he learned from his time in the military but the story isn't like the blah military novels. He adds so much to the book to listen to him tell the story. He pays awesome tribute to the men of Task Force Ranger in this book while giving you nuggets that he took with him that he learned. I love this book and recommend it to pretty much anyone who will listen to me. You really feel like you get to know the author through this book.

Liking this so much I am happy to say when I bought the hardback copy of the book I wanted it autographed by Keni. When it didn't come after a couple of days I had emailed to see the status. His nice assistance told me Keni was on the road but when he came back he'd sign it. I figured it was autopen or something. He came back and not only did he sign it and send it to me, he emailed me himself apologizing for the delay. How many authors you know would do that?

GET THIS BOOK! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Inspiring!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Get It On! to be better than the print version?

Yes, Keni's recounting of his life in his own voice gives it the emotion and excitement not able to be captured in print.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Get It On!?

His involvement in the Blackhawk Down encounter.

What does Keni Thomas bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Personal experience, emotion and feeling of having been there.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

YES, having been an Airborne, Infantry Ranger and later a helicopter pilot this book hit home on WAY too many levels.

Great account of Operation Gothic Serpent

Like Keni's keynote speeches, he narrates in a unique way thay feels more like he is telling you a story in person. Its a lot more dynamic than the usual style of audiobook reading. I like it.

The story itself is of the battle of the black sea, Operation Gothic Serpent which inspired the film based on the events, Black Hawk Down.

Keni gives a great account of the days in Somalia before the operation as and then the during it as a US Army Ranger, and he provides great information of what went down. Its got a lot of great humor in it as well!

The only thing that got a little repetitive was the constant use of Bible quotes, at some times shouting them. But I respect that Keni is a strong believer in his faith and that it was so important to him during the conflict and after.

If you are interested in this event, definitely grab this book!
