Publisher's Summary

Walk the ancient streets, meet the colourful characters and uncover the secret history of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the upcoming expansion to the Disney Parks experience!

After devastating losses at the hands of the First Order, General Leia Organa has dispatched her agents across the galaxy in search of allies, sanctuary and firepower - and her top spy, Vi Moradi, may have just found all three, on a secluded world at the galaxy’s edge.

A planet of lush forests, precarious mountains and towering, petrified trees, Batuu is on the furthest possible frontier of the galactic map, the last settled world before the mysterious expanse of Wild Space.

The rogues, smugglers and adventurers who eke out a living on the largest settlement on the planet, Black Spire Outpost, are here to avoid prying eyes and unnecessary complications. Vi, a Resistance spy on the run from the First Order, is hardly a welcome guest. And when a shuttle full of stormtroopers lands in her wake, determined to root her out, she has no idea where to find help.

To survive, Vi will have to seek out the good-hearted heroes hiding in a world that redefines scum and villainy. With the help of a traitorous trooper and her acerbic droid, she begins to gather a colourful band of outcasts and misfits and embarks on a mission to spark the fire of resistance on Batuu - before the First Order snuffs it out entirely.

5 star all the way

This is a solid story It’s not a depending on everything else for context story, this stands on its own really well It is obviously to tie in and flesh out the Galaxy’s Edge theme parks - but it doesn’t rely on them at all, you will want to go more than ever before, but it’s still a great Star Wars story without the park I hope to read more from Delilah S Dawson after this!!!

Heavily references known characters to often

Story overall was fairly standard. Main criticism like mentioned is that the they overly reference characters like Leia and like, as well as the Jedi etc. It feels like at least once per chapter the writer mentions either Leia, Luke or the Jedi or other events that it ends up detracting from the story and feeling almost...like a cringy fanfic at times. It isn’t a terrible book by any means and I definitely enjoyed a lot at times, just know what ur getting into and temper ur expectations.

Odd Music Choices, Great World-Building

This is a fantastic book for those interested in the lore around the new Galaxy's Edge area in Disneyland as there's some brilliant exploration of the locations, characters, and culture associated with Batuu. This book also introduces several elements that could appear in Rise of Skywalker too. What let's this audiobook down is its incredibly rushed production. Set after The Last Jedi, it's REALLY odd that none of the themes from that film or The Force Awakens are used. Instead we get the Imperial March and the Emperor's theme in scenes with the First Order instead of the actual FO theme from the films. What's particularly odd is that John Williams has even composed music for the Galaxy's Edge theme park (avail on Spotify). If there was one track I was expecting to hear in this audiobook it was this one. Instead we get Anakin's theme and some other Prequel music. Lazy, rushed, and detracts from the finished product enormously. Also: Can we PLEASE start getting male actors for the make characters?

Fun Story

A fun story, albeit with some cheesey lines and predictable outcomes. It's a good run-up to TROS or a trip to Disney.

Missing something real

This book can be considered a sequel to the authors ‘Phasma’ book which I gave 5 stars but this one is not as good SPOILERS There seems to be a lot of product placement in this book and a missed opportunity for juicy angsty enemies to lovers story which would have given the story more emotional punch.,, the set ups all there but it is consciously swerved and I feel that’s a shame in this context. The book would have been so much richer with it.

Decent book

I was surprised I enjoyed this book. I haven’t enjoyed many of the new Disney canon books. I just don’t enjoy this narrator though.

Well worth the listen

A great addition to the Star Wars universe. Strong interesting characters and a deepening of the meaning and workings of both modern factions in the Canon. Good narrative that's only slightly let down when it swerves into brief but obvious brochure like copy from the theme park based around the setting. This doesn't detract wholly from the story though and is well worth sitting down and immersing yourself in. Star Wars is escapism at its best and this book only adds to that notion.

Dull

This adventure is just some sort of back story for the new Disney rides. Alas. It is dull. Not a single character that I can remember or care about. Again Disney have gone for a female protagonists and yet again, full of emotions and anxieties. Rather than enthuse me about the new Disney rides, it may have just put me off.

Enjoyable but heavy product placement

It’s a fun story continuing where ‘Phasma’ left off and introduces you to an interesting bunch of characters. Good voice performance by January LaVoy and she makes it easy to distinguish between the different characters. As mentioned in the overview, I do feel that it leans heavily on the various shops that Disney want you to visit and spend money in when you go to Galaxy’s Edge. Some will say it makes the world feel more real, to me it just felt a little heavy handed.

Great listen

Great book would definitely recommend to any star wars fan. The only downside is the background audio in the cantina can be a tad repetitive but that's a minor issue

Fun and frivolous

I enjoyed the narration and the story itself is quite fun, it’s not going to be a classic but it’s a great story to listen to if you want a Star Wars tale

Black Spire

Delilah delivers again another great book for star wars cannon. It's been good to revisit our hero Vi again, January LaVoy brings the book to life. I highly recommend this book.
