Self exiled from her family of traders in mystical goods and services on her 23rd birthday, the Friendship Magician must make her way in the world: meeting a Scandinavian werewolf, a business minded minotaur, an air elemental with a taste for smutty stories, Canadian elves, an incompetent valkyrie, and the one creature she was always told to never deal with. Blending an economic view of the value of friendships with a coming-of-age story in an urban fantasy setting, this book will appeal to fans of Jim Butcher, Charles de Lint, and Neil Gaiman.

This short sequel is similar in plot to the first book, Merchant Magician, but its shorter length and much-reduced focus on economics and business trading makes this one more palatable. The continued pop-culture references are still overused, however, and the book would be a much better experience without them. The ending was also fairly weak.

Writing quality is a slight step down from the first book, with the author's penchant for dangling participles revealing itself, along with an assortment of other grammatical issues, such as incorrect lay vs lie; an occasional incorrect word; and some tense, plural, and pronoun issues.

Audio book narration is good, with a new narrator taking over this time. There's some dialogue characterisation, but nothing too silly. Solid presentation.

Overall this is better than the first book, but not as good as the author's other fiction.
