Publisher's Summary

The best-selling, epic space adventure, Freedom's Fire: the complete series of six audiobooks, in one box set.

It was never a question of if the aliens would come, it was only ever when.

The first interstellar war, a generation ago, left humanity enslaved. Now, humans fight in the armies of their masters to save themselves from annihilation.

At least, that's what the propaganda insists is true. What the layers of lies keep hidden is how badly the new war is going for the people of earth.

Now, it's Dylan Kane's turn to blast into the heavens and join the battle, but what his masters don't know is that, by putting a weapon in his hands, they're giving him the key to unlocking his hopes of freedom.

When the rail-gun slugs are tearing through his ship and the vacuum is sucking the life out of his wounded friends, will Dylan's years of repressed rage turn into enough bravery to make his dream come true?

The Freedom's Fire series in this special edition includes:

  • Audiobook one: Freedom's Fire
  • Audiobook two: Freedom's Fury
  • Audiobook three: Freedom's Fray
  • Audiobook four: Freedom's Fist
  • Audiobook five: Freedom's Fall
  • Audiobook six: Freedom's Fate

A number one Amazon.com best seller in space marine science fiction.

A great character driven story!

This series was fairly low on my "to listen to," list because it simply didn't grab me with its summery.

But now that I've finally gotten around to listening to it, I really should have had this closer to the top of my list!

The characters:
From the very beginning, I felt the essence of each character as I feel they were meant to be imagined. That was aided by the excellent narration, but each character goes through their own unique journey of changing, growing, and forming relationships.

The universe:
The world we find ourselves in holds a lot of cliche's, but not so many it's bad, just enough to make it fantastic, in the midst of good story/world building.
The Greys are an interesting take on the stereotype with some great and original evolutions, and I love how in one of the novels it bring up that the Greys had been visiting Earth for scouting for a long while before invading - Referencing all the great alien conspiracies.
The Troggs were an awesome foe! At first they feel one dimensional in a way that feels right, as they are the primary invading force. As the story evolves, so do they.
From faceless invader to something that you sympathise with.

The narration surely tops off this great series. Every character felt unique, every mood expressed emotively.

Pleasantly surprised

I didn’t go into this with high expectations but this was an entertaining well written series with snappy dialogue and an engaging storyline. The story passed in the blink of an eye and in the end I was disappointed it finished. Worth listening to and the narration is excellent.

Struggling

I normally love this author, but am on 2nd book and they are still in the situation at the beginning of one. This book is CRAWLING along on a seriously slow pace. I often wonder where the author's mind is at, in order to write such a painfully slow book. Surely they get bored with it themselves and stop. I'll keep going, but my mind keeps drifting to other things because their is nothing to keep me here. Its like someone else has written it.

I have listened to all six books.

This was a great listen. I played through all six books in a very short time.
There is a good range of main characters and they are not all gung ho heroes. The story adds a bit to the usual sci-fi narrative. The physics sometimes is questionable but who cares it’s just a story.

Narration was excellent and the change between characters was great.

If you like the first book, the rest are just as good. Kudos to the author,

Non stop action

This box set was brilliantly narrated. The story was non stop action and held my attention from start to finish.

A great tale of war and war

Awesome tale of space war and one man’s struggle for freedom. Well written and performed, however there are moments where more care could have been taken when dealing with the science. One example is when the ship was travelling at 30C for over a year. No consideration was made to the implications of the time dilation on earth. Ignoring some of the far fetched and flakey science and accepting that this is a work of pure fantasy, it’s quite a great story.

Engaging but it's just the same thing each book.

First up, the narrator is fantastic, outstanding job. The story is very modern in theme, the books are mostly the thoughts of one guys who's a sarcastic Mary Sue character. The writing is witty and the sarcasm clever but pretty much the books are the same thing over and over. Mary Sue (Kane) fights with the bureaucrat and does what he wants anyway and saves the day full hero off-the-script commando style. Then another bureaucratic fight, another battle, more sarcasm and infighting, another battle... into the third book I had to give up, it's boring when half a book is just the power struggles between two people while pretending the story is about aliens.
