When Rab was a baby, his mother made a decision which would change his life. Maybe it's just me, but this book missed the mark. Some very original thoughts and ideas, but none of them fully explored or fleshed out. Would have better as a three book series.

wonderful concept, poorly executed

I gave up about a quarter of the way through. The characters are shallow, the plot lines don't seem to be going anywhere, and I can't make myself listen to one more pointless round of vapid dialogue. I used to be a fan of Baxter but I guess I'll avoid his newer works.
