Publisher's Summary

Harley Vincent is resigned to life in the human world. Sure, being a margay shifter is half her nature, but life among humans gives her the freedom to roam and do as she pleases. That is, until anti-shifter extremists target her, putting her life in immediate danger.

When an old acquaintance and onetime fling, Jesse Dalton, shows up to offer the protection of his pack, Harley hesitates. She may have feelings for Jesse that go beyond their one-night stand, but life among shifters means giving over her independence to the needs of pack. Plus Mercury Pack has its own threat to face: a rich half-shifter is determined to claim their territory at any cost.

Jesse, who lost his true mate as a child, has wanted Harley since their night together, and he's not letting her go again. They may not be destined for each other, but he knows she belongs to him and with his pack. Even if he can convince her to join him now, can he convince her to stay?

Great Narration but not a true HEA for me.

Read through KU whilst also flicking and listening to the audible version too. What a great idea to Read and Listen. Very handy using my headphones when doing stuff around the house. I don’t lose the flow of the story. Will be buying all the audible books over time. I have to say the narrator for this book was one of the best with an enjoyable narration. Lots of inflections and I could tell most of the characters apart. BOOK REVIEW Harley and Jesse have a past history. Loved the actual plot and found it a good read, especially with what happens to the pups but dragged down by the non HEA for me. Lovely having interaction between the two packs again. Jesse is a bit of a jerk at the beginning. He has known he wanted Harley as his mate for three years, basically stalked her and knows everything about her but seems to believe she has to come to him. He is actually a bit of an opinionated bully towards her. The fact he knows he wants her as his mate has not stopped him being with other women. I dislike that fact a lot. Harley had wanted Jesse for ages too but the poor girl didn’t even know he was interested and put their one night of sex down to being what it was, One Night. Really liked Harley with her disdainful cat attitude and how she just threw people as she had no interest in who they were. She was confident in herself and really didn’t care what others thought. The same uninspiring basic baseline flows through this story too. Emotional baggage is blocking the bond forming until something bad happens. Unfortunately, I was really annoyed that these two only imprinted to form the mate bond and are NOT True Mates. Jesse's true mate died as a child, so he is free to choose anyone he wants. Harley is like second best for Jesse not matter how he explains he is different now than he was then. Harley says she is fine with the fact she is not his soul mate but that does not feel true. Harley's True Mate is possibly out there somewhere, so what will happen if she runs across him one day? She has forsaken him to suffer a torment and level of pain that has been described in previous books as being excruciating for the forsaken mate. How is her imprinting on Jesse fair to her True Mate? Right till the end I thought it would go the same as many of the previous books and they would be True Mates but this did not happen. This fact ruined this book for me. Read through KU whilst also flicking back and forth and listening to the audible version too. Very good narration.

the love story to the fore

I was waiting for the true mate bomb to drop. 1st imprint I've read. I wasn't sure if I'd take to Jesse as he wasn't an original thru the Phoenix pack. but all good as it forked at the junction and took the road less traveled so a lead....love and not war

Wow

I am so sad it ended. Different look at a mating relationship but still very intense. Their was no slow spot.

It was ok

I'm a huge fan but I have to say this was my least favorite in this series. Usually I can't put them down but with this one it just didn't grab me like all the others. It did make me begin to listen to the series from the beginning though!

Weakest story in series

The author's and narrator's voices both sounded "off" in this book. I'm no prude as anyone who reviews my library can attest, but the inconsistencies in the storyline kept it from offsetting the heavy sex. ( ex: she's a musician performing at a nightclub; but at her mating ceremony she "doesn't like to be the center of attention". Where did I miss her stage fright or fear of performing? her angst and pushing herself to go out on the stage? Nada. Nichts. Nyet. If I'd read this book first, I would never have bought the others. I really got a feel in the work that Wright was spending time reading Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series (scents) and her Psy-Changeling series (cat & wolf shifters)....both of which are excellent.

Finally the Imprinting Story

We all love Wright's True mate themes but were wondering if the secondary characters were cheating themselves by imprinting rather than waiting for their true mate. The answer kids is no they weren't cheating themselves and by taking the imprinting theme on head on in this book she opened up a world of possibilities for her packs. They are no longer tied to just finding another wolf shifter in a world full of shifters.

The introduction of a new shifter species and different types of packs such as prides will broaden the world she created allowing for more humor and fun. The love is as good fated magic thing is pretty great too.

I was looking forward to this but.....

I have enjoyed this series, along with Jill Redfield reading. I'm not sure why but Jill changed her reading style and I found it irritating. It was sing-song and I had a hard time finishing it.

Not the best addition to the story.

This book made me mad at the Mercury pack, most of them started out as assholes to Harley at the beginning of the book. I was disappointed in the pack, who by now I consider my friends. They do turn around quickly, but it soured my enjoyment of the book. This was not one of my favorites from the series. I'm also not a fan of couples who have already been together, but then for some unknown reason separate, then get back together. Very few authors can pull this off. I still liked it okay and it made my day go by quickly at work, so there is that. I also love the kids, Willow had me cracking up. This is a series that should be read in order, starting with the Phoenix series. Narrator does an good job, and I would happily listen to anything she narrates.

Another great story....

Loved the adition to the series. At first the story started as if it was a different narrator. Then after a chapter or 2 the original voices returned. Can't wait for the next book, keep them coming....

Another joyable listen

This book is another shifter romance with the same pattern as The Phenix Pack. This book's couple are not true mates but they have a history that makes the mating work.
As with the Phenix pack and the first Mercury Pack, there is an enemy to fight, some interpack drama and seriously, hot dominant sex. Most of the past favorite characters are back and there is even some cameos with the Phenix pack.
As always, this narrator is brilliant. My only wish is that the story was longer and that the pattern of the plot wasn't quite as predictable but, #3 will be an auto download. Enjoy!

Excellent!

I was glued to the story from first starting to listen to it. I now have had to buy the next three books so I can carry on listening to the story. I love it when I can follow a series and the characters are the same but the stories are centred on different people in the pack. I feel part of the family and I am with them in the woods or pack dens. I find myself smiling when the characters do and am very sad when they are. The mark of a really good author. Thank you for writing the story.

What the heck happened to Jills voice?

I've loved all the of the books in this series and the Phoenix Pack series, and find that Jill is actually one of the only narrators whos voice DOESN'T irritate me - but seriously, what was up with her voice change in this book? It was like she decided to take on a half-British accent and dragged out every word. I had to stop listening - sorry Jill!

Not as good as the other stories in the series.

I usually really enjoy Suzanne Wright's work, but I have to say this was very disappointing. I didn't particularly like either Harley or Jessie as characters, and the story itself was rather dull and predictable. I also found Jill Redfield's narration rather annoying. This book was definitely not up to par with the other books.
