About this listen

First of My Kind is the story of Nathan Myers, a Missouri farm boy who, through a chain of events that happens halfway across the galaxy, finds his way from the seat of his Grandfather's tractor to the command of a starship from a lost super race.

Nathan will tell you in his own words about the life and death struggles he encounters on his journey. He will tell you about the humor, peril, and pain of his galactic education. Even with the help of an eccentric A.I. and the most unlikely of allies, he still finds it easy to lose his humanity to the horrors and injustice of a galaxy no one could have imagined.

I very much enjoyed this book at the start. The origin of our hero was like a little novella in prelude to the main story. From there it changed abruptly into a space adventure that ultimately turned into a long-winded battle slog that was a mish-mash of any number of other scifi adventure stories.
It was entertaining enough but not so much that I feel the need to get any of the sequels.

The Revenant meets Cowboys And Aliens meets Blakes 7 meets Deep Space Nine meets Firefly

A really good listen, a farm boy to reluctant saviour of multiple races. The author and narrator both do an excellent job of showing Nathan’s two sided character, a socially inept, shy and somewhat naive farm boy, and a ruthless decisive killer when ‘innocents’ are threatened. The secondary characters of various alien races and an incomplete AI, make for many amusing scenarios. Will definitely be listening to the next book. The story is a bit slow to get going, however once it does it’s warp speed only!

Worth the effort!

Ok Sci-Fi story, takes a couple of hours to get into it, but if you persevere, it gets ok. Definitely not adult reading, the plot and story are light, but ok for younger folks. Minimum coarse language etc.

Young adult, teens Sci-Fi

Standard space opera. A bit of humour and I had a few laughs. Happily going for book 2 so I hope it is as good.

Good listen.

So many holes and plot gaps, but an ok generic read for those like me that love sci-fi… but it’s no Andy Weir

Would be a B grade movie at best

After an interesting start to the story it quickly deteriorated to just background noise .
You could walk away for an hour and not miss anything at all.

The story started well

I'm glad it was free. The interactions between characters were so basic and lame. Every corny trope you can think of is wheeled out and shamelessly overused. Gag inducing
