Story
Nearly all of us have an ideal of what a "dream" relationship would be, but very few of us are living in one. Three decades of research and clinical practice have led Harville Hendrix to pinpoint four essential "non-negotiable" keys to creating and sustaining a healthy, loving relationship. In this workshop, he will help couples: understand what prevents them from achieving the type of relationship they aspire to; discover how to cultivate those habits that can create the conditions that permit such a relationship to blossom; and practice the Imago Dialogue, a three-step process that offers us a highly effective tool to transform our dream about our relationship into reality.

Each of us has a dual nature: we are light (conscious) and dark (unconscious). The dark side of our personality - the “other,” the shadow side - is made up of what we think is our primitive, primal, negative impulses - our “existential kink.” Our existential kink also drives the dark or negative repeating patterns in our life: always choosing the abusive partner or boss, settling for less, thinking that we’re undeserving, not worthy. But it also is the source of our greatest power.

Good practical advice you can use
Very informative and inspiring advice that seems to help.
Good audio version specifically made for this format.
Helpful exercises to pause and work through in each chapter. This along with Hold Me Tight is a good choice when in pursuit of relationship help. Both have interesting perspectives and practical help.
Both partners would need to read or listen to either one for it to work; and be willing to have a go.
This book in particular though has left us both feeling like we have something to begin with, rather than just give up in our efforts to save our relationship.

Its like turning on a light in a dark room!
Lot's of "ah ha" moments,. For me, love has often been similar to being In a dark room - hope for the best but brace for the worst when you don't expect it. Not only does Harville illuminate common relationship patterns and why they happen, but he also clearly explains exercises and gives examples of how to reenergize love and bring back safety and passion, I'm super-excited that "true love" is not only possible and long lasting, but can also exceed the experience of the initial "romantic love" phase! It takes increased awareness and transformation, but as Harville points out, there is no higher human purpose than to give and receive love. Thank you Harville!.

focused on too much on post marriage stuff, like marriage could solve all your problem
and I HATE THE THINGS THEY TALKED RELATED TO PHYSICS AND COSMOLOGY to prove their point... first! there is matter and anti matter asymmetry... second! we never proved a particle such that it is own anti particle doesn't exist...

Transformational
I came to this book upset and out of ideas. Me and my boyfriend love each other very much but can’t stop arguing over seemingly small things. I could feel affection wilting because our relationship isn’t a safe place anymore and I didn’t know what to do to fix it. Having listened to this book I now feel so full of hope and energy. Harville identified so many things that I have been doing wrong and can easily change. I never realized before that me and my boyfriend have difficulty asking for what we want so unmet needs and frustrations were mounting. Now I have a practical and safe way to communicate my needs to him. I feel like we can turn things around. A must have for a serious relationship.

Conscious relating in action
Love this audio with Harville Hendrix.
If you are interested in being in a conscious relationship this audio has a lot to offer.
It explains the underlying dynamics, why, what is happening - is happening... and how to break the spell of the power struggle that seems to be very common in relationships.
It addresses couples and singles alike.
