About this listen

History shapes those who travel through it.

Determined to save the antiques store she has inherited from ruin after the unexplained disappearance of her parents, Sarah Lester discovers a jumbled collection of vintage postcards that leads her on a journey through time.

Unprepared for the story the postcards weave about their reclusive former owner, Sarah’s life is thrown into disarray as she is transported to Victorian London, colonial New Zealand, and to the British Raj in 19th-century India.

Sarah’s journey through time could solve the mystery of her parents’ disappearance. But one impossible question remains: What will staying in the past do to her future?

I started this book because it was one of Audible’s ‘included’ books.
I throughly enjoyed it. The writing is beautiful - and the story really grew on me. Excellent audio.
By the end I was completely invested in Sarah and have subsequently bought the rest of the series.
Looking forward to finding out what happens next.

Without realising this was the first book in a series, I was eager to get some answers- which never eventuated.
Lots of redeeming features but with the main character making so many questionable decisions there were lots of holes in the story, and the timelines don’t match up. The author overlooked this in order to achieve resolutions.

I did enjoy the book but have to admit I did have to read it twice because I felt like I missed some of the important twists but enjoyed the book and have just started the second.

I absolutely love listening to this book, it was such a delight and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through, never knowing quite the twists and turns that follow Sarah's journey and yes of course I bought the next book. the narrator did a beautiful job doing all of the voices, such a credit to her, as I can imagine just how hard it is to convert from English to New Zealand to Indian and a little Scottish well done.

spellbound the whole way through

I loved this story for so so many reasons; the enthusiasm behind both the voice of the author, and the narrator, and the many scenes within the story.

However, my absolute favorite point on this story is the inclusion of New Zealand. I'm from New Zealand, a 22 year old lady, living in Christchurch New Zealand on 2024. I'm well aware of our checkered history with our native Maori people, and I harbor great shame of their past treatment.

but I also know our beautiful land, it's history and all, goes unnoticed by much of the world. Not often are we mentioned in any media, in fact, I've only heard NZ mentioned in a book one other time, and that was a Leslie Pearse book my mother was listening to.

Thank you, for not only the inclusion of New Zealand in your story, but for the inclusion of our history and a part of our story in yours.

Much kindness, Nikky Shirtcliffe
