Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The secret to productivity isn't discipline. It's joy.

We think that productivity is all about hard work. That the road to success is lined with endless frustration and toil. But what if there's another way?

Dr Ali Abdaal - the world's most-followed productivity expert - has uncovered an easier, happier path to success. Drawing on decades of psychological research, he has found that the secret to productivity and success isn't grind - it's feeling good. If you can make your work feel good, then productivity takes care of itself.

In this revolutionary book, Ali reveals how the science of feel-good productivity can transform your life. He introduces the three hidden 'energisers' that underpin enjoyable productivity, the three 'blockers' we must overcome to beat procrastination, and the three 'sustainers' that prevent burnout and help us achieve lasting fulfilment. He recounts the inspiring stories of founders, Olympians, and Nobel-winning scientists who embody the principles of Feel-Good Productivity. And he introduces the simple, actionable changes that you can use to achieve more and live better, starting today.

Armed with Ali's insights, you won't just accomplish more. You'll feel happier and more fulfilled along the way.

Critic Reviews

Ali is the master of productivity. Nobody has a talent for distilling complicated ideas into fun, accessible and actionable insights quite like him. (STEVEN BARTLETT, creator of Diary of a CEO)
Ali is the absolute master on how to be productive without sacrificing your own happiness. This is the book we've all been waiting for. (Dr Julie Smith, author of Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?)
In this eye-opening and important new book, Ali Abdaal flips the conventional narrative on productivity: accomplishing important things is not about creating more efficient systems but instead about cultivating a deeper energy for your work. This really got me thinking! (Professor CAL NEWPORT, Georgetown University, author of Deep Work and Digital Minimalism)

A great voice in the productivity space

Being a long time fan of Ali, I was curious to see what might be new in this book. There was a lot! It’s clear how much time and energy Ali put into this book and I can’t thank him enough. I particularly appreciated the chapter called Align. I think it’s profound. Also, knowing that everything Ali says has been fact checked and researched according to the latest science is a real comfort. Looking forward to receiving the paperback soon and studying this book deeper. I also really like that Ali narrated the book too, I know that would’ve been an extra challenge but it made the listening probably 5 times better. Bravo.

A delightful feel-good book!

Like many who will buy this book, I have been following Ali on Youtube for years watching his journey through being a junior medical doctor to going full-time YouTuber, writer and creator. For those who aren't familiar with Ali, you're in for a real treat. He's a good egg, the real deal, and the book is absolutely delightful to listen to. It is warm, nerdy and funny and full of his genuine personality. While it's called "productivity" the content isn't about being productive or efficient. It's about understanding yourself as a human, flaws and all. It's about getting your head unstuck so you can do the things you're passionate about. It's about connection and clarity. I'm sure the physical book is great, but the audiobook is just perfect. Thanks Ali, you did a great job on this recording! I will absolutely listen again.

a “positive psychology” approach to an introspective experience - a catalyst for enthusiastic motivation

Personable, humorous and intriguing. I have ADHD and this is the first self-help book I have ever connected with on such a level. I could be biased, having studied psychology throughout my tertiary education, but this book was everything & more. A self-help book that enables a captivating experience of learning and application in daily life. Ali presents an array of well known and niche studies alongside creative and mellowed down examples for the every day listener or reader. Ali’s application of these studies into listeners or readers lives is also impeccably done. Half way through listening to this book, I ran out and purchased the hard copy to annotate and study, hoping to apply some of the explored concepts and perspectives into my everyday life and career in mental health rehabilitation.

A breath of fresh air, mixed with some great research references.

I love the way this book builds on itself from page to page and is backed up by concrete research. It definitely gives a lot to think about and go away and implement. Thanks Ali great book keep up the great work. 💯👍

I bought the Kindle version, but then the audiobook version, as playing on 2x speed allowed me to listen to the book multiple times whilst undertaking other daily activities.

Thx for the reddit /rshowerthoughts mention. It’s definitely filled out some of those “what if”questions I’ve often posed to myself. 😉. A great repository of information.
