Publisher's Summary

Normally the arrival of an art exhibition at the Mayville Heights library would be cause for celebration. But thanks to the overbearing curator and high-tech security system that comes with it, Kathleen's life has been completely disrupted. Even Owen and Hercules have been affected, since their favorite human doesn't seem to have a spare moment to make their favorite fish crackers or listen to Barry Manilow.

But when Kathleen stops by the library late one night and finds the curator sprawled on the floor - and the exhibition's most valuable sketch missing - it's suddenly time to canvass a crime scene. Now Kathleen; her detective boyfriend, Marcus; and her clever cats have to sniff out a murderous thief before anyone else has a brush with death.

Kathleen and Marcus

The author has found a way to create an interesting story and have the main characters work together instead of against each other. And the ending was dangerous in the tradition of her stories, but not. Well done.

Cute but predictable

Not bad but not Sofie Kelly’s best work.

The biggest problem with this book in the series is that it’s incredibly predictable. Kelly is normally very good with keeping you guessing with the whodunnit side of things but a little strange or boring with the side stories. This is the opposite.

The Who, how and why are very easy to figure out. Yet the side stories were fairly entertaining and funny. Per usual, the characters were interesting and funny and the narration by Cassandra Campbell was on point.

Mostly Mystery & Some Romance

As always the story is engaging. Mystery and romance make a good combination. I am looking forward to seeing how some of the love interests play out in the next book.

great addition to the series

This mystery was more complex than some of the previous tales. someone could begin with this story, as the author provides plenty of information for new readers.

Be prepared to endure a lot of repeated phrases

I enjoy the premise of these books. The author is still learning the craft and could use a more experienced editor. Here are a few sentences that it's easy to get tired of: "Are you okay?"; "She gave him a side glance"; "Would you like a cup of coffee?"; "Would you like some hot chocolate?"; Would you like a brownie?" If everyone in the books truly talk and eat the way they're described, they must all weigh in excess of 300 lbs each. Talking equals eating. Perhaps it's a true Minnesota culture! Around here we can have a talk without food or drink accompanying the conversation. As I mentioned, these are cute stories. They could tolerate a diet away from too much food and over-used expressions.
