'[Crime fiction's] biggest contemporary star' GUARDIAN

'One of the finest writers of contemporary crime fiction' DAILY MAIL

-------------------------------------------------------

The course of Frank Mackey's life was set by one defining moment when he was nineteen: the moment his girlfriend, Rosie Daly, failed to turn up for their rendezvous in Faithful Place, failed to run away with him to London as they had agreed.

Frank never heard from her again.

Twenty years on and he is still in Dublin, working as an undercover cop, and has cut all ties with his dysfunctional family. Until his sister calls to say that Rosie's suitcase has been found. Stricken by the news, Frank embarks on a journey into his past that demands he reevaluate everything he believes to be true.

Critic Reviews

Every holiday needs a good crime novel and French's skilful thrillers are tailor-made to terrify
Even more gripping than her last two. A truly amazing novel - so brilliant on dysfunctional family dynamics, with characters so real that you can hardly believe someone's made them up.
Gripping. Tana French's third novel hooks the reader from the outset; the characters are masterfully drawn, and the author's ear for Dublin dialogue is pitch-perfect.
A gripping, literate thriller laced with black humour
If you're only going to buy one thriller this year, let it be Tana French's Faithful Place. Searing, utterly Dub, and very funny . . . Tana French, Dublin author of international hits . . . is a wonder. Just don't plan anything if you pick this up; you won't be able to put it down.
Charming - will leave readers begging for a sequel
French copperfastens her reputation as an author of exceptional insight and talent.
She lifts the lid on Dublin and offers a haunting portrait of a man belatedly dealing with his demons

It was a very enjoyable book, well written and well read. I loved Gerry, the narrators voice. Thanks for entertaining me for a number of hours.

I really enjoyed this book.

The plot was enjoyable with many interesting characters, narrated extremely well.
The main character is just a selfish, up himself creep. That’s my reason for 3 stars for story.
The author certainly created a deluded, pervvy, arrogant main character, intentionally or not.

Should not be included in Dublin Murder Squad series. This had nothing to do with the murder squad!?!

Good story - Main character awful

This was the first book I have read/listened to by Tana French and it absolutely turned me into a fan. Her characters are so complex and real that I went searching to see if this was based on true crime. I would love to know how French keeps track of such a complex and intricate plot, she must have an incredible mind to write these stories.

I struggle to find novels that engage me as this one did as I lose interest very quickly. This one kept me interested to the last word.

I also enjoyed the narrator who reads beautifully.

Excellent plot and characters, engaging

Great narration. Great, understated story. Superb scene setting and time-stamping. Wonderful characters, likeable and detestable. Loved this book and performance.

Lovely and quiet crime story
