Publisher's Summary

Eve Rodsky is changing society one relationship at a time, by coming up with a 21st-century solution to an age-old problem: women shouldering the brunt of domestic responsibilities, regardless of whether they work outside the home. The unequal emotional labour and 'invisible work' in a relationship is a hot-button issue, but no one has offered a real solution to this dilemma, until now.

Rodsky surveyed more than 500 couples to figure out what the invisible work in a family actually is and how to get it done effectively - in a way that makes relationships even stronger. Fair Play identifies the 100 main tasks in any relationship and family, and then divides those tasks fairly (not necessarily equally!) so that both parties contribute their fair share.

If we don't learn to rebalance our home life and reclaim our 'unicorn time' (aka, our space to develop the skills and passions that keep us vibrant), then we risk losing our right to be interesting, not just to our partner but to ourselves.

Part how-to guide for couples, part modern relationship manifesto, Fair Play offers an innovative system with a completely original lexicon to discuss how relationships actually work...and how we can make them work better.

Eye opening

both my partner and I listened to this book and damm it was eye opening. he realized the full extent of how much I do at home with our 14 month old daughter. he was amazed I'm still functional with everything I do. have to see how it goes but he's wanted to do more - just gotta put it into practice! this book helped connect him to everything I was already saying

Wow! Just WOW

What an eye opener! As a pregnant mum-of-a-toddler I know life is about to get even crazier! I know my husband loves & supports me & tries to do his best but this book really puts things into perspective. I can't believe the number of invisible jobs I've acquired by default. I spend so much of my working day Not Working, as I'm organising the pest guy & the pick up of the new toddler bed & what's for dinner & what needs to be picked up from the store, like every other mother, while he is able to concentrate 100% on his job. The mental strain is real & the weight of responsibility is immense, triple that with all the hormone fluctuations & anticipation of child birth again! Whilst it's nice to think you're super-woman & you can do it all, it sucks when something doesn't work out & then all the blame falls on you.
I'm extremely excited to meet this little baby boy in 4 months but I'm worried thinking about how many More cards I may take on in maternity 'leave' if nothing changes. I hope as my husband & I start playing that light is shed on all the invisible jobs & mental strain that take up so much time & we can run our household more efficiently, effectively & collaboratively! I'm looking forward to sharing in the joy of what we create & being proud that we're fulfilling ourselves & our children in all aspect because we've made an effort & we've made it visible. Thanks Eve!

Loved it but should have bought the paper version

Brilliantly written and narrated. Couldn't stop listening and can't wait to play the game. I think having a paper version would be better to go back and follow up on some cards etc.

A husbands view

My wife wanted to read it. I downloaded it for a listen and was blown away by how it struck me as so. very relevant on our lives. I have ordered the cards and cant wait for my wife to finish reading it so we can get started. Every partner should listen to it.

Needs a downloadable PDF

There’s too much to follow along list-wise over audio that it should come with a downloadable PDF to complete the book properly. A bit disappointed with this lacking feature.

Otherwise the content is great and enjoy that it’s read by the author

good content

written from a female perspective, which I understand but makes for some defensive listening at times

Great, if you are wanting conflict

This is a terrible take in building relationships. If a sports team or business was designed around this system it would fail, so don't push a relationship this way. Save your money, a much much better book is Annabelle Crabs, "Wife Drought", which is far from devisive like the rant
