Welcome to a world made dangerous by the sea and by those who wish to profit from it. Where a young girl must find her place and her family while trying to survive in a world built for men.

For 17-year-old Fable, the daughter of the most powerful trader in the Narrows, the sea is the only home she has ever known. It's been four years since the night she watched her mother drown during an unforgiving storm. The next day, her father abandoned her on a legendary island filled with thieves and little food. The only thing that keeps her going is the goal of getting off the island, finding her father and demanding her rightful place beside him and his crew. To do so, Fable enlists the help of a young trader named West.

But her father’s rivalries and the dangers of his trading enterprise have only multiplied since she last saw him, and Fable soon finds that West isn't who he seems. Together, they will have to survive more than the treacherous storms that haunt the Narrows if they're going to stay alive.

Critic Reviews

'Young blends adventure and intrigue in this lush nautical duology opener, crafting a flinty world in which danger lurks at every turn and showing affection is a sign of weakness.' (Publishers Weekly)
'Compelling characters and taut emotion are the highlights of this engrossing novel.' (School Library Journal)
'In a brutal world, Fable shines as tenacious yet vulnerable, unafraid to do what she must to survive. This story caught me by the throat and refused to let go!' (Shelby Mahurin, New York Times bestselling author of Serpent & Dove)

Not a book I would have read however a great tale to listen to. The characters really came to life.

The description of scenery was great

I bought this as a paperback because I absolutely loved the cover only I never got around to reading it. So I got the audible and I loved it. Fable still has an innocence that not many girls her age would have but she's extremely knowledgeable on the sea and gems. West has had a tough life up until now and still has many secrets.
I loved the adventure, the found family, the twists and turns every step of the way and the cliffhanger was brilliant.

The narrator was so good. She had the right voice for Fable- young but knowing. I enjoyed listening to her.

The cover got me!

I thought it started out slow and I thought maybe ship stories weren’t for me. But I’m so glade I finished it. It’s so good. Can’t wait to start the next book.

It’s so good

Fable felt so authentic, the perfect mix of grit and bravery. Watching her wanting to prove herself felt real and relatable. I enjoyed he description but a few words said by the narrator were hard to understand, over all though it doesn’t take away from the listen. Loved it!

Fable felt like a girl raised on the sea
