Big questions require hard answers

Ben Bova’s EXILED FROM EARTH. A 1971 Book... there are some wince-worthy perspectives on culture and gender. Still, the central idea holds up. The story centers around a dystopian future where government fears the impact of new science. The answer? Exile the scientists. Really enjoyed it.

Racist and Sexist.

Racist and sexist, and it is a shame because it completely takes the reader away from the science fiction plot.

Not Expected and Enjoyable

Considering when this was written it doesn't date itself. That is pretty impressive. Though short, it is definitely "sweet" and I recommend it highly.

Oriental???

Is the writer referring to “oriental rugs” or a derogatory term for Asians??? I’m leaning towards the ladder.

Can't wait for book 2

The book was just the right amount of drama, and the ending sets the stage for book 2

Earth must turn backward

I'm only 10 minutes in, and apparently editor didn't notice during the flight from west coast to east coast the Earth must be turning the wrong way??
I will update further into this book.
Finished this book, 2 other parts to this series. The story grows on you and I am already listening to the second part.

Excellent

However, the story itself is outstanding and although I notice that another reviewer thought it inappropriate concerning race and cultural matters, it is of it’s time and those trifling concerns pale into insignificance when viewed in the context of the 1970s and the grandeur of the story.

Although the narrator continues to glory in what is a bass voice - and rightly so - it can be a little distracting sometimes.

Dated, of course, but still great!!!

Even though we have mapped the human genome now, which they had not when this story was written, the questions and concerns raised, are still valid.
It is certainly not beyond the bounds of possibility that such an exile could occur. It would certainly be preferable to the probability of a World Government simply eradicating the ‘problem’, as well as the ‘problem makers’.
