Publisher's Summary

A hero to some. A villain to many. The truth forever buried.

The man who became known as Esrahaddon is reported to have destroyed the world’s greatest empire—but there are those who believe he saved it. Few individuals are as divisive, but all agree on three facts: He was exiled to the wilderness, hunted by a goblin priestess, and sentenced to death by a god—all before the age of eight. How he managed to survive and why people continued to fear his name a thousand years later has always been a mystery...until now.

From the three-time New York Times best-selling author Michael J. Sullivan, Esrahaddon is the final novel in the Rise and Fall trilogy. This latest set of stories sits snugly between the Legends of the First Empire series and the Riyria books (Revelations and Chronicles). With this tale, Michael continues his tradition of unlikely heroes who must rise to the call when history knocks, demanding to be let in. This is the 19th full-length novel in a body of work that started in 2008 and spans four series.

Masterful storytelling

For any fans of the series, this is a must read. Michael does an exceptional job of creating the backstory of a much loved character.
Tim once again goes above and beyond with the performance of this novel.

MUST READ.

Absolutely best of the three

A good book - this was worth working towards and I enjoyed it, The authors 20th book set in Elan and the last book for me of 2023! This is a big book compared to the others in the series but is well worth your time. The first two books were okay -they get better as you go and with Esrahaddon everything comes together and makes sense. Esra is a well-developed likeable character and I loved his upbringing and the inclusion of the Ba Ran - the only thing I took issue with is if Esra was SO smart why did he clue in so so late to what was going on? This seemed really weird that he was so clueless. I guess he is someone who is good at the art and is smart but not at all curious - he doesn't go investigating anything when he has an uneasy feeling. And everytime Yorick talks to him he just keeps saying "what are you talking about?"or doesn't understand- that's just a bit strange for a smart person. Then again, maybe it is deliberate because he was basically created by a God to follow after a certain destiny - unfair but necessary for the greater good. So maybe he was not meant to clue in to things quickly or that fate would not have happened.
This book was all so well voiced and brought to life by the audio book narrator TG Reynolds!! Masterfully done! The author skillfully weaves this tale and it is a bridge connecting the past and the future of Elan. We get answers and get to meet people we've heard about but haven't known. Really enjoyable and I'm just sad it's over! I actually want to re read the Ryria books now with a new perspective - there will be no more mystery but it would be interesting to see Esra in and beyond that prison having now read this.

One of the best from MJS

I can’t imagine how MJS came up with such a great and heart touching storyline for Esrahaddon, especially with the goblins. A roller coaster of all the perfect feelings that take us through the life of Esrahaddon without disappointment.

Astounding!!

A truely brilliant story. If you’ve read his other books you’ll love this prequel. Filled in so much background that I want to start reading the other books again.
