Gabriel Thompson, Sheriff for the small town of Prophet, comes face-to-face with the unthinkable: a trail rider in the Olympic Mountains has been pulled off his horse and mauled to death by what appears to be a very large dog or wolf. One of the local hunters, Dell, is determined to blame the local wolf pack and creates so much unrest in the town that Gabriel has to contend with vigilantism. Gabriel’s boyfriend and animal behaviourist, Tiber Russo, doesn’t believe the wolf theory which sets him on a collision course with Dell. Can Gabriel keep the town safe and solve the mystery?

This 2nd in the Lake Prophet murder-mystery / romance series was a real pressure cooker! I loved how the authors captured the townsfolk’s sense of fear and revenge and the environmentalists’ protectiveness of the wolf pack. I was absorbed by Gabriel’s race to contain the situation before the national press blew the story up. I also loved the slow and steady pace of Gabriel and Tiber’s growing relationship. We see more magical realism as Tiber’s ability to read and communicate with animals proves vital to the case—so satisfying! 🎧 Voice actor Sean Crisden has a deep, relaxed voice, I love his velvety tones and his ability to portray the characters so convincingly and project their emotions.
