Sheriff of the small town of Prophet, Gabriel Thompson is conflicted when all the evidence of the murder of a local bank loan manager points towards Gabriel’s younger brother, Sam, and his only recourse is to seek assistance from another jurisdiction to conduct the case. Meanwhile, Gabriel’s boyfriend, animal behaviourist Tiber Russo, appears to be the target of a malicious troublemaker but Tiber doesn’t want to burden Gabriel with the details when he already has so much on his plate.

This murder-mystery / romantic suspense story was the perfect finale to a brilliant trilogy! Once again, we see Tiber flirting with danger by playing amateur sleuth with the help of his trusty animals, with whom he can communicate. I really felt for Gabriel having to fight for his brother’s innocence while respecting the rule of law, especially since things had been so rocky between him and Sam. Each of the books in this trilogy have had multiple story strands and it was nice to see some resolve in the 2nd book while the rest are dealt with here. It was also very satisfying to look back and see how distant Tiber was to Gabriel in the first book and the progress they’ve made over the series. It wasn’t a big deal but I was a little frustrated that Tiber kept so much from Gabriel in this book for so long—I didn’t see the point of it other than to create annoying tension in us readers. Overall, an amazing series! 🎧 Voice actor Sean Crisden is a firm favourite and I loved his performances throughout this series. He has deep, smooth-as-velvet tones and he voices the characters so expertly!
