Making a difference

This story is one that has needed to be told and I'm so thankful for. Gaining confidence in myself has been a long journey and now I finally have hope for the future of mental health in children that are exposed to too much media focused on appearance. This movement has the possibility to make the change. Thank you Taryn for making this happen.

I really appreciate that you made your story into an audiobook as I have difficulty reading. This means it will also reach others that can't make use of the book. You're a wonderful speaker!

Raw and Perfectly Imperfect.

This was a great book to listen to, very motivating and inspiring. I have been to see Taryn live and this book reads just as her personality plays out on stage. I loved it.

inspirational

Loved it. Really gets you thinking about why we diet and do the things we do and who we do it for. Definitely going to stop the diet insanity and embrace. :)

A shallow look at a real issue

I tried to like this, really I did. My first problem with this book came at the outset when the author waxed lyrical about the movement she “founded”. Say what? Body positivity has been around for a long, long time and a lot of thinkers have been writing about it. Similarly, a lot of academics have dedicated their whole careers to body image studies. Rebranding body positivity as “embrace” or whatever you want to call it does not mean you invented anything. Secondly, the constant references to social media were excruciating. At one point - still in the introductory bit I think - the author/narrator tells us about a fabulous person, whose main claim to fabulousness is the fact she has X number of Instagram followers and if we don’t already, we should follow her on social media immediately. As if the emphasis on social media and its artificial reality isn’t a major contributor to body image problems! The book had a shallow, gushing quality with the author constantly reminding us about her amazing journey to social media stardom and I just can’t believe it, and it all began at my kitchen table, but I’ve done something amazing! You’ve invented a catchy tag line to promote ideas you didn’t come up with. I really did try to get into it but it wasn’t for me. I’m clearly in the minority however so maybe it will do some good with helping others get interested in body image the wealth of great research out there on the subject.

The content is great, the narration I didn’t enjoy

I love taryn and the work she has done. I loved her documentary and it’s such a powerful message. But I just couldn’t get past the first few chapters as the way it was read was monotonous and had no pauses between sentences. Overall un-engaging and off-putting narration. Once again I love taryn and her work, it’s purely the narration that let this audiobook down. Sorry taryn.

Love the book! Love Embrace!!

This was everything I expected and more! This is such a wonderfully inspiring and beautifully written book. Taryn is a wonderful writer/narrator. She make it feel like she is speaking just to you. This is a book that I can see reading over and over again just to help me reaffirm my journey to embracing my body for all the wonderful and powerful things it can do!!
