Die junge Effi Briest heiratet mit dem Segen ihrer Eltern den mehr als doppelt so alten Baron von Innstetten. Sie lebt mit ihm auf dem Land und langweilt sich bei den dort stattfindenden adligen Gesellschaften. Baron von Innstetten ist viel unterwegs und lässt Effi alleine. Effi findet einen Freund in dem Apotheker Grieshübler und dem Hund ihres Mannes. Als Major Campas, ein ehemaliger Kamerad ihres Mannes zu Besuch kommt, lässt sie sich auf eine geheime Affäre mit ihm ein. Einige Zeit später findet der Baron die Liebesbriefe des Majors an seine Frau und fordert Campas zum Duell. Campas stirbt. Der Baron ist jedoch von Effi enttäuscht und trennt sich von ihr. Auch ihre Eltern können ihr den Fehltritt nicht verzeihen und verstossen sie. Effi zieht in ein kleines Appartement nach Berlin und erkrankt. Kurz vor ihrem Tod laden die Eltern Effi ein, wieder nach Hause zu kommen. Es kommt zur Versöhnung. Effi stirbt. Regie: Peterpaul Schulz
