Publisher's Summary
THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING SERIES...
The chilling suspense novel from the author of Brotherhood in Death.
After a party in New York, Lieutenant Eve Dallas rides home with her billionaire husband, Roarke, happy to be done with cocktails and small talk.
After another party, not far away, a woman retires to her bedroom with her husband - and walks into a brutal nightmare.
Their paths are about to collide...
When the young woman - dazed, naked, and bloody - wanders in front of their car, Roarke slams on the brakes just in time, and Eve, still in glittering gown and heels, springs into action. It's been a long night for the tired homicide cop, and it's far from over.
Daphne Strazza is rushed to the ER, but it's too late for Dr. Anthony Strazza. A brilliant orthopedic surgeon, he now lies dead amid the wreckage of his obsessively organized town house, his three safes opened and emptied. Daphne would be a valuable witness, but in her terror and shock the only description of the perp she can offer is repeatedly calling him "the devil"...
While it emerges that Dr. Strazza was cold, controlling, and widely disliked - and that he treated Daphne like a trophy wife - this is one case where the evidence doesn't point to the spouse as the first suspect. So Eve and her team must get started on the legwork, interviewing everyone from dinner-party guests to professional colleagues to caterers, in a desperate race to answer some crucial questions:
What does the devil look like? And where will he show up next?

Evil Personified
The twisted mind of a psychopathic sociopath is foiled once again by Eve Dallas, Peabody, Rorke, Mcnabe, Meira and a team of hard working detectives.
Another spine tingling book by J. D. Robb.

Hooked
I love this series. But this story in particular was quite addictive. I couldn’t stop listening to the end. I normally only listen to to and from work but found myself listening to the rest of it over the weekend

Always enjoyable.
2023 AUDIBLE REVIEW
I’d forgotten the great twisted ending of this story, though the story itself feels slow.
Though it was interesting that Eve's gut never gave her the tingles when she first spoke to the killer. She does all the routine stuff but without her innate sense of who the killer is. But suddenly she says she knew who it was, though she didn’t dig deep on this person.
Eve seems to be growing at last with her ability to accept change. I also liked that she opens up to Roarke much easier. The continued repeating of her childhood trauma is getting boring but I accept it is needed for new readers.
UPDATE REVIEW 2021
Still found this to be entertaining if not once again sad due to the senseless pain, degradation and deaths of happy and ordinary people.
Daphne was such a brave soul.
But one set of victims really hit a sad factor.
I have owned most of these books in paperback for years but now have them all in eBook format, so I am rereading this series once more in order, updating and replacing missing reviews.
Even knowing what is in the future, it is absolutely no hardship to reread this series and I am really enjoying how all the characters are growing and changing.
BOOK REVIEWS
Another enthralling read in this series. One keeps expecting the next book to have already been done but even though they all revolve around the same theme, Murder and Homicide, they are always a great, interesting and gripping read.
As always it is lovely to follow along and see this great team and extra characters at work as well as be a part of Eve and Rourke’s relationship.

Lead couple detective and spouse
How could the performance have been better?
Not so over dramatised.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Don't really know.
Any additional comments?
Would have read others in the series but they had the name narrator.

Great story
What a pleasant surprise, Eve was nowhere as rude in this book. Such a pleasure listen to it. Once again a great storyline.
