Ready Player 1 meets Expeditionary Force

Ready Player 1 is one of my favorite books. It was the first LitRPG stories I ever read and it was so much fun. Sadly the next few I read I barely finished and some I didn't. I was hooked quite early with this series and finished both books in about 4 days.

I liken the feel of these books as the title says - Ready Player 1 meets Expeditionary Force.
Skippy the A.I. form Expeditionary Force is nothing like Eve though. But the general premise of an A.I. helping the main character to discover the mysteries of the universe along with some sidekicks to help is essentially the same.
Alan is similar to Wade from Ready Player 1. A down on his luck character who seems to stumble into a situation he is ill prepared for yet despite all odds shines under pressure.

You don't have to like playing games to enjoy these books, just understand how they generally work. If you love a great adventure and science fiction then you will love these books.

Nick Podehl does a wonderful job with his narration. His female voices aren't annoying like most males are who try to perform them, his accents are good and he is easy to listen to for long periods.

Buy this, love it, and spread the word so we can get many more stories from Cosimo.

Better but still too minutia heavy

Book 2 was significantly better than book 1. The narration continues to be great. Areas of improvement:

- A plot finally presents itself

- Alan starts to make a few decisions of his own

- Lambda is far more interesting than Eve, the exposition engine

- People are starting to appear like people and not low budget computer NPCs

The series continues to suffer from the sin of telling instead of showing. He tries to rectify this somewhat by showing new discoveries in training simulations, but they are no stakes throw away scenes. Likewise, the massive info dumps, while less common in book 2, are still far too many.

lackluster

Nick Podehl, can do no wrong.
I've listened to the land chaos seed book 1 through 6 fantastic series so when I heard that book 7 wasn't out yet I wanted to listen to something new I loved Nick Podell performance in that series so naturally I chose this book. However the story's main character is basically useless without his AI he relies on Eve so much in the first book.
and when I got the second book I expected him to progress and level on his own but it doesn't he just relies on his Ai and lets her do all the work it's not really that exciting to hear a character just basically follow outlines and have no originality of his own. he's always asking what to do and where is Eve. like I said Nick Podehl can do no wrong his performance in the chaos seed book series was fantastic every character sounded different his accents and mannerisms made the book come to life I felt for every character in that book but not in this one I just can't wait 4 book 7 of the land to come out.

OUTSTANDING story line!!

I really do like this story line. Lots of Twist and turns and it doesn't bog down while keeping up the speed needed to keep one in the story.
The main character some times seems like and idiot but he does have help from others...

Slower than the first and less interesting

This book wasn't terrible, it just wasn't as good as the first, it drags on quite a bit and Alan still relies far too heavily on his AI. The book tries to present itself as fast paced and frenzied when in reality, it's pretty dull and has less action than the first. I also feel that Cosimo takes too much time going into unnecessary detail in an attempt at world building. But it just makes the book feel lazy and bloated....kinda like me!

Non stop entertainment!

The second installment of Yap's 'The Game' is even more gripping than the first. I'm not a gamer myself - the story is standalone entertaining and so appropriate to a broader action and Sci -Fi/fantasy junkie audience. This story draws you into a multi faceted, complex universe with rich characters and abounding plot twists - the next installment can't come soon enough.

Wow, Book 3 can't come soon enough!

Book two was amazing! expanding on Alan's adventures from the previous book the first few chapters set the tone for another great book.

It is slow at times but they're either for plot explanation or for general description, One thing I love about this series is the Narration, Nick Podhel really out does himself and delivers another great narration.

would definitely recommend the series to any avid gamer, it sci fi fan!

Another epic installment

I was expecting a party of five, Alan, kitana, sidestep, etc to go on some quests and dungeons for loot and levels, but instead the story took a much larger more interesting route and it was great.
It was a little less 'gamey' than the first but as the ground was already set this wasn't a bad thing.
I genuinely can't wait for more.

A truly gripping series!

By far the most immersive RPG series I have read this decade. Thee authors attention to detail is impeccable and succeeds in capturing the quintessential nuances of the genre. Thus is definitely one to read to the end, hopefully there will be many more additions.

Good sequel

Enjoyable story too short though and no real epic battles all seems a little easy for the hero and lacks tension but an enjoyable book in all

A good continuance of the story

The story and characters continue to pull you along. I think what I like best about it is the frequent surprises. The author does a good job of writing events with results that aren't what you might expect.
