Publisher's Summary

A terrible discovery. A secret that could destroy human civilization. A desperate escape to the most dangerous planet in the universe - Earth.

Two hundred years ago, a fleet of colony ships left Earth and started a settlement on Proxima Centauri.

Centurion Space Force pilot Nathan Stacker didn't expect to return home to find his wife dead. He didn't expect the murderer to look just like him, and he definitely didn't expect to be the one to take the blame. But his wife had control of a powerful secret. A secret that stretches across the light years between two worlds and could lead to the end of both.

Now that secret is in Nathan's hands, and he's about to make the most desperate evasive maneuver of his life - stealing a starship and setting a course for Earth. He thinks he'll be safe there. He's wrong. Very wrong.

Earth is nothing like what he expected. Not even close. What he doesn't know is not only likely to kill him, it's eager to kill him, and even if it doesn't?

The Sheriff will.

A whodunit with motive left open

M.R. Forbes is one of my favorite authors with Chaos of the Covenant series being my favorite series followed by his War Eternal series and others. With that said, starting with The Forgotten series and the segue series that has followed it, they have lost much of the edginess and novel SciFi that I've enjoyed in so many of his past series. Regrettably, as was the same with this Forgotten Earth Series.

The plot starts out interesting enough with a replicant human being framed for the murder of his wife, a daring escape to Earth in hopes of discovering the truth behind his wife's murder followed in close pursuit by Proxima Centauri elite troops. What follows was more or less a series of skirmishes with local heathen earthens and the ever-present trife. There was very little of what would be considered interesting SciFi; a few spacecrafts, some plasma weapons and such.

More regrettable was the large plot holes that were left unanswered in the book. Like the motives of the yet new mysterious Earth faction that had surfaced with unexplained new tech to wreak havoc on the pursuers and uncovering the motive of his wife's murderers.

I'll not be continuing with this series.

Generic zombie like/post-apocalyptic - spoiler

Seems like the writer wanted to keep the true nature of the novel a 'surprise'... it started as sci-fi but quickly turned into a 'hoards of implausible opponents' novel. They aren't zombies... but the text is so generic they might as well be. Think "Aliens" meets "I am Legend". IMO the whole recipe is absurdly overplayed... but if you're still enjoying these types of tales then there's nothing technically wrong with this novel... I just wish the author had let us know that's what we were getting.

Great

Great action sci-fi. Can’t wait for more. A compelling series that is very well narrated.
