Critic Reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

Okay Starter

Like all the Pimsleur language learning books, this starts at a very basic level. It is okay for anyone who has never heard the language before. However, it is not for someone who needs an immediately useful reference. It will help one move to increasingly more complicated material, but it requires the subsequent volumes to actually learn the language.

Dutch phase 1 unit 1

I expected this to have some introduction (maybe 1/2 this “lesson”) to Dutch language, however that was not the case. Phase 1 unit 1 is simply the narrator telling you what you should do to get the most out of this method.

This is Worth Your Time

This free first lesson (and introduction to the learning process) was so exciting. I LOVE their process and this one lesson is all it takes to taste and know if it's right for you. I found the lessons to be exciting & I look forward to them each day. Digestible and leave me totally confidant in the conversational topics covered!

I have since continued into the following units & am very grateful for whatever it is about Pimsleur method that is worlds apart, more comfortable and natural than any other language method I have been exposed to!

great. I was an exchange student many years ago.

This course is easy to follow and naturally flows through conversational basics. I highly recommend.

Great Start

This is a great start hearing the conversations but I’d definitely suggest getting something hard copy as well for grammar & spelling.

Great value for the money

I'm looking to complement my DuoLingo instruction - this was interesting! it's going against the Pimsleur method to use more than one way of instruction so I must be wary of the language police.

It would have been great - if only I was a man!

I found this way of helping you to remember a new language seems pretty effective. I also enjoyed the way it was done except for the fact that it was obviously aimed at teaching an American male and did not offer the female equivalent at all - which is why it lost stars and left me wondering if it was actually going to be of any use whatsoever.

great free taster!

this free book explains the system and tells you of the learning methods creation, after which you run through a simple "do you speak" conversation.

I'm now off to get the first unit book!

Worst language book I have ever had.

This book was pretty much useless. The first chapter - which is about half the total length of the book - is just waffle with no actual substance or point to it. The second part I barely bothered listening to as it was a mumbled, garbled mess with yet more waffling by the incredibly irritating narrator from the first chapter. I will never purchase another title by this company and would not recommend it to anyone that wants to learn a new language.
