Questo racconto rappresenta il tentativo di superamento dei confini tra il genere fantascientifico e il fantasy. La vicenda è ambientata in un futuro remotissimo, su una Terra molto diversa da quella attuale: lo sviluppo del progetto Chimera ha condotto l'evoluzione umana su percorsi strani; percorsi che hanno agevolato l'avvento di altre razze. Specie ibride che posseggono nel loro DNA geni provenienti dagli uccelli e dai pesci. La presenza misteriosa di una Torre dei Semi - da molto tempo dimenticata - riaccenderà in alcuni individui nuove speranze e il desiderio, forse utopistico, di ristabilire gli antichi equilibri ambientali del pianeta Terra.
