About this listen

The beautiful planet Pern seemed a paradise to its new colonists—a return to an agrarian way of life—until unimaginable terror turned it into hell. Lethal spores began to fall like silvery thread-like rain from the sky, vaporizing everything—and everyone—in their path. The colony, cut off from Earth and lacking the resources to combat the menace, was doomed.

The colonists noticed that small, dragon-like lizards in their new world were joining the fight against Thread, breathing fire on it and teleporting to safety. If only the dragonets were big enough for a human to ride and intelligent enough to work as a team with a rider. With time running out and the colony's destruction imminent, they set their most talented geneticist to work to create the creatures Pern so desperately needed—dragons!

Unfortunately if you have read the book you will realise the audiobook is NOT the full story. VERY disappointed 😞

Not the full story!

Not happy title cost full price but is missing a lot of the story, all others in the series I’ve read are complete this is a rip off & doesn’t do the original version justice!

Sadly this story, which it turns out is abridged, feels clipped. The performer uses accents and intimation which I found makes the story almost unbearable to listen to. It has a much more sci-fi feel to the other books in the series and a completely different feel, rich in characters and dialogue but staccato in pace.

Great story, unbearable recording

Didn't realise it was abridged. Great story, but wanted more. Unabriged version not in the library.

Prefer unabridged

The story was much more sparse than I recalled, but I love it nostalgically. The performance was very dated.

Childhood favourite

Half missing

While this says it's an "abridged" audiobook, I didn't expect such a complete gutting of the story. It jumped around so much that if not for the fact I had read the book previously, I'd have been confused as hell.

And the reading is awful. The audio quality is bad, the pacing is so ridiculously quick I had to slow it down, and there are no pauses between the sections so when the context changed I completely lost track of what was happening.

Awful, just get the complete story.

Not the full story, terrible audio reading

Very disappointed, so much missing. Lucky I also have the hard copy. Won't be downloading the rest of the series.

Not the whole story
