What would you do if fear no longer stood in your way?

What would happen if you were no longer afraid to dive in headfirst and go after your dreams, instead of feeling like you were sitting on the sidelines of your own life?

What then?

We tell ourselves we are too busy to pursue our dreams. That there's no time, or that it's not practical. But what if the real reason we're putting off our goals is FEAR?

The fear that we're not good enough, not smart or talented or capable enough. It's the fear that others might laugh at us, or that we'll get hurt or be rejected, or that pursuing our true potential will simply be too hard.

And most of all, the fear that we'll fail.

But courage doesn't mean we are never afraid. True courage means taking action despite the fear. True courage means doing it scared.

The question is - how? How do we face those fears and take that first step in the right direction? How do we overcome those obstacles that stand in our way and sometimes feel insurmountable?

In Do It Scared, popular blogger and podcast host Ruth Soukup will help you to:

  • Identify your own unique "Fear Archetype" - the specific type of fear that keeps you stuck - and learn how to conquer it.
  • Dare to start thinking bigger about your life and your goals.
  • Learn how to seek out honest feedback to accomplish big things.
  • Embrace the core beliefs you need to overcome different types of fears.
  • Discover why our magical idea of "balance" is totally overrated and let go of the guilt, once and for all.

Equal parts inspiration and tough love, Do It Scared combines easy-to-implement tips with the motivation to start making real changes that lead to big results. Get ready to get off the sidelines and jump into your own life as you dare to Do It Scared.

A delightful insight to fear

I really enjoyed this book and think that Ruth has great insight into the power of fear and overcoming it in your life. If you’re a follower and a fan of Ruth’s work and podcast, a lot of this information is already available there. However, this provides some extra details and helps to reinforce the podcast ideas. It’s worth a listen if you like self help or want a practical way to try and improve your life.

Good concept

I really like the archetypes and her advice for them. The only thing I found strange is how she uses exercise as a punishment with her kids. It seems very odd for someone to use authoritarian parenting and actually saying "don't let it bother you" minimizing to kids. As kids, it would teach them to push down their emotions which isn't healthy. Kids really should be taught to work through them so they become emotionally intelligent. Both kids and adults should acknowledge the emotions and then after working through it, don't let it impact your day. I felt like this book needed to clarify if that's what she meant. Kids and adults have different brain development so it was weird to me that she used the same "don't let it bother you" style with her kids. That's a big problem with a lot of adults... Pretending to be positive all the time. As the book progressed, it seemed like she had a "get over it" attitude instead of healthy work through it advice. It was a mixed bag for me.

Tone

Great content and advice but it was very difficult to listen to - something about the tone. If you’re okay with up-talkers then purchase. If not, purchase the book and read! At times it was like nails on a chalkboard and reminded me of a pre-k teacher reading to her class. 😔

Life changing for me & at the exact right time!

This is amazing! It's a real life changer! The full fear assessment I took from doitscared.com gave me a complete overview of how my top fears hold me back. At first I was surprised at my fear archetype, then sad that it had held me back for so long. But with Ruth's book, within a couple days I felt totally empowered and that I will never allow myself to think I am less than again. I am also part of Ruth's Doing It Scared Community, participating in her live sessions and able to be more confident and productive than ever before. This came at a perfect time for me with a very imperfect life change. Thanks to Ruth, this book and her community support, I am now "doing it scared" much better than I ever imagined I could ever do!

The Reader. OMG

I can’t even pay attention to what is being said for trying to process the voice and the crazy inflections. Good god! Who talks like in real life. I’ll just buy the book. Can I get a refund on the audiobook please?

Most People Need This Book

I loved how the book was broken down into stories identifying the 7 archetypes of fear. I loved how the pros and cons of each archetype were discussed and the resolution of how the person in the story stared their fear in the face and what steps they took to manage/overcome the fears. I loved the reminder at the end of each fear type to pay attention to specific chapter in the later part of the book. I will be doing my fear assessment tonight and figuring out how to tackle fear and move forward with some big goals I’m trying to achieve. So glad I heard Ruth talk about her book on Hal Elrod’s podcast. I am so glad I listened to this and I’ll be listening to it again!!

There are self challenges and information on checking in with yourself. There’s a check list, examples from her life and that of others. Well worth reading and a tool for building your own brand of confidence.

Awesome, inspiration story

Loved the book, it was an eye opener about all the fears that plague my life. Now I have a deeper understanding of the reason behind my decisions and my behavior. It was an easy, simple read full of examples that helped me identify the fear.
