Once I was a fae princess with sea-magic at my fingertips. Now? I’m a hunted supernatural in a squalid shop, stripped of my power. My only comforts are stale cookies, Elvis records, and my hula-hoop. Then a lethally sexy fae king arrives and rips even those away. After the brutal king throws me in prison, I strike a bargain with him: my freedom in exchange for helping him find a magic blade. My mom should have killed me the day I was born.

Now, I have to kill my sister.
Judica, enraged by this turn of events, vows to do anything to reclaim her rightful place as empress, including challenging Chancery to a battle to the death.
While Chancery is away training, she gets a taste of the human world, where she can do whatever she wants without genetic obligations. Now torn between a life she was born into and one that makes her happy, she must confront her treacherous sister or cause the end of the world.

Very enjoyable.
I had this in my Wishlist for a while then decided to read it because of the negative reviews. I wanted to see if the negative reviews opinions were valid and they aren’t, the protagonist is neither ditzy or unbearable one review says she didn’t know what the school bell was dispite watching human shows which isn’t true, the main character just looked around to see what the bell signals ie moving classrooms.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story and found myself captivated and not wanting to turn it off. The story flows well and it is told wonderfully.

An amazing start to a series
Wow! I’ve been searching for my next obsession and I’ve found it in this series! My only complaint is that I have to wait for the audio version of book two! Bridget is an incredible author, and I was amazed by her ability to completely encompass a characters emotions and motives through showing their actions instead of telling. The story has so many levels and things going on, yet everything flows together so nicely. It’s creative, it’s unique, and it’s Utterly impossible to push pause. I loved Chancery and felt she was an amazingly strong character, yet not your typical overdone heroine. I admired the different relationships Bridget set into motion, especially the sibling relationship. I also fell in love with this society and the Evians. Truly, I would recommend this series and plan to continue listening to the rest of the series. It’s beautifully written, follows a compelling story, and has characters that will remind you of all the different emotions and ups and downs of life.

Loved it!!! Hooked on this series.
Such a great story and a compelling opening to the series. I am so hooked! I cannot wait to read the rest. Binge-read sesh here we come!
To be completely honest the thing I liked most about this book is while it’s total fantasy it contains no magic which is a welcomed find. I am so stinking excited about this series.
Chancery came into her own and found her inner strength and allowed herself to be refined by her adversities. She has a long road and many trials yet, but I look forward to going on the journey with her.
The narration kept me intrigued and allowed me to continue the book on the road, while showering, and cleaning...so basically I didn’t have to put it down so to speak. The performance can make or break a book and this one was very good.

Super race of Eve's direct descendents
This book is a very well written story about the demands of a young woman who has to learn the ways of her people and to lead them to peace and prosperity. She learns that she is the chosen heir and she isn't sure that she wants that. Familial infighting and many obstacles come her way.

Amazing series! Great Narrator!
I've read all the books in this series and they're amazing. I love audio books while I'm driving and this one definitely hit the mark. Even though I've already read thru book 5, it kept my attention and made the drive time pass quickly. I found myself staying in my car for a bit when I arrived at my destination just to hear a bit more. The narrator was perfect!

Captivating
This story is captivating and intriguing. It will keep you guessing.
Like so many groups that have lost their way, the descendants of Eve, the Evians, no longer have knowledge of their Creator. The women who rule this society rule without mercy, even killing their own children when the child doesn’t fit with their social norms. Chancery, as an older twin, by custom, should have been killed by her mother.
As the spare, she learns what it means to be considered a lesser individual and she is shielded from the brutal education the heir receives.
As a daughter of mercy, Chancery must figure out her place in the world.
The narrator did an excellent job of portraying the intensity of emotion without over-reading the story!

This YA story captured my interest from the very beginning. Chancery’s struggles and growth throughout the book kept me engaged. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
Bridget E. Baker did a great job with this story. Having the youngest female be the heir apparent gave the story a different twist.
Jennifer Jill Anaya’s narration was very entertaining. Her narration fit very well with the ages and personalities of the characters.
