Publisher's Summary

Nathan was different and Sally knew it. From his early childhood, Nathan was bursting with creativity and uncontainable energy, struggling not only with learning issues but also with anxiety and OCD. He saw the world through his own unique lens - one that often caused him to be labeled as "bad", "troubled", or someone in need of "fixing". Bravely choosing to listen to her motherly intuition rather than the loud voices of the world, Sally dared to believe that Nathan's differences could be part of an intentional design from a loving Creator with a plan for his life. She trusted that the things that made him different were the very things that could make him great.

Join Sally and Nathan as they share their stories from a personal perspective as mother and son. If you are in need of help and hope in your own journey with an outside-the-box child, or if you're an adult trying to make sense of your differences, you'll find deep insight, resonance, and encouragement in this book. Dare to love and nurture the "different" one in your life.

Critic Reviews

"Reading the unique perspectives of both mother and child is powerful. Moreover, the love that flows throughout this book makes even the most difficult experiences hope-filled and encouraging. I cannot recommend Different enough!" (Shawna Wingert, author of Everyday Autism)

So much encouragement and insight

The stories shared in this book helped me to understand my own children and see their potential. I gained patience, compassion and a greater ability to nurture my “different” children.

Encouragement and Hope

I will start in saying this book has value to any parent, not just those struggling with different needs. As the mama to an out-of-the-box son, this book was timely. My mama-heart has swelled with the encouragement, admonishment and conviction this book has provided. The Clarksons lay out a very accurate picture of living with mental needs- balancing faith and medicine, the frustration and the gifts that come with it. I am very grateful Nathan and Sally chose to bare so much personal information in order to give hope to those struggling.

this book describes my son's battle perfectly

Thank you Nathan so much for being willing to put your story out there. My son is already 17 years old and because of your book, I finally begin to understand my son and his battles. With God with us, my son and I now begin to have a battle plan to help him.

Inspirational

This is a wonderful book. It is so encouraging and uplifting, focusing on what can at times be a discouraging situation. It is written in such a very open, honest and personal way, that you can “feel” what the author “feels”. I gained so much insight.
I enjoyed the way it is written from Nathan’s (the son) perspective and then the same event or time period from Sally’s (the mom) perspective. Read this book if have anyone in your life who is different, or even if you don’t. You will not be disappointed.

Wonderful story

Glad to have this book in my library. As a mom/wife to those who are different, life can feel overwhelming and exhausting. Sally’s and Nathan’s stories are so helpful because they give two beautiful perspectives.

Encouraging as a Special Needs Mom

I enjoyed the telling of both Sally and Nathan's perspectives. It was helpful to me as a Christian mom with autistic and dyslexic children.

Not for me

This book pushes very strong Christian beliefs on the reader. Would not recommend reading as any form of self help or self exploration due to this, and definitely wouldn't recommend to anyone vulnerable or impressionable. The book wasn't what it said on the tin, it gave an interesting outlook and good advice at points, it's great that they've done it, I just wish the biblical content had been omitted

my point of view<br />

in the sample I sounded very interesting as I have both dyslexia and mild ocd. as I found Nathins side interesting (I'de liked more) I struggled to listen to his mom as it was alot of Christian stuff & conflicting herself.
but thanks for sharing your story.
