About this listen

To save the world, Sonya must become its greatest hero—and its darkest villain.

The opening of Pandora's Box changed the world, giving rise to an age of superhumans and monsters. Yet mankind was not safe from its own hubris, and in the end, it destroyed itself.

Sonya Chernovna returns to the past with a mysterious new ability that lets her absorb powers, combine them, and even bestow them onto others. It's a power with near limitless potential.

She must manipulate heroes and villains alike, playing both sides while keeping her identities secret. As her power grows, so does the weight of her decisions—and the line between her identities blurs.

She'll do whatever it takes to rewrite humanity's ending—even if it means being the most heinous villain that ever lived.

So right off from the start this book starts where the world ends. A thrilling opening that sets the stage for the events to come. While time travel can normally be over done in stories this felt like a breath of fresh air because Sonya/Ishtar is playing a double life, acting like a Tony Stark/ Bruce Wayne in the public eye while she tries to save the world from a maniac who sees himself as the protagonist. The kicker is that she can’t lie at all so has to use half truths to get herself out of whatever situation she has found herself in. The cast of characters felt fleshed out and it’s good to see lots of representation. What I also loved was how self aware Sonya was. She knows she has to get her hands dirty and part of it is out of revenge sure, but she also is carrying a burden that no one else knows the full scope of. The jumping perspectives were also nice to see even if I wanted to get back to the main pov on a few occasions. The performance by Hollie Jackson was awesome especially with how she portrayed Sonya compared to Ishtar. Reminded me of what Kevin Conroy would do for the Batman media he was in.

Went in with no expectation and came out really enjoying it

I have read many books in this and similar genres this one is easily one of the best I’ve ever read if you’re unsure about getting it and you’ve enjoyed fantasy/sci-fi/lit RPG then just go for it. You won’t regret it.
