I have read some reviews that point out that the writing can get a bit self indulgent around the dense cultivation theory. There are periods in the book that do get deep in the weeds but it felt more digestible and concise. The story didn't feel like it got a 5 chapter interlude and balanced it well.
I did also like the story arc with Zack but after the small tastes we got of the other trial participants I do wish there was some more time spent there.
love the direction cant wait to see how the next book unfolds.

This was great start to this story arc, the lantern dynamic is a genius. Getting some insight into the OLD empire is super delectable. This book is really building my excitement for what's to come.
